It is advisable that before you consider closing any credit card, you should try to contact the retention department to see if they have any offers in your account prior to closing.

Each year, when I see the annual fee for one of my credit cards is posted, I usually reach out to the card issuer to inquire about any possible retention offers that are available to me. The retention offers can be anything from having the annual fee waived or receiving extra bonus points with or without doing any spending activity.

    Radisson Rewards Business Visa Card

I saw the annual fee of $60 was posted to my Radisson Business Rewards Visa Card. It is worth noting that the Radisson Business credit card is no longer available for new applicants.

Radisson Rewards credit card is not my go-to card when it comes to my daily spending; however, I do value the anniversary 40,000 bonus points and Gold elite status for room upgrade based on availability. Radisson properties in the US do not impress me, but Radisson does has some awesome properties in Europe and overseas that I enjoy staying at, so I am not hesitant to pay $60 in exchange for 40,000 bonus Radisson Rewards points every year. With that being said, I still like to keep this card and although I did not plan to close this card, I inquired U.S. Bank anyway for the retention offers to help with the annual fee.

Retention Offer Experience For Radisson Rewards Business Visa Card

Instead of calling, I decided to simply emailed the customer service using their online secured email system that’s available after logging into the account under Contact Us. I simply stated that I am considering canceling the card but wanted to know if there are any retention offers.

A day later, I received a response from them that read:

Our records indicate an offer to apply a promotional purchase Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 7.99% on your central bill account for six billing cycles, or 2,500 bonus reward points. If you would like to accept one of the offers referenced, you may reply to this email with your preference.

Although 2,500 bonus rewards points are pretty weak offer to me, but I accepted it. I did attempt to ask for a higher bonus points offer, but unfortunately my account is only targeted for 2,500 bonus points offer to keep the card open.

As the old saying goes, 2,500 bonus points are better than nothing!

Radisson Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card

I applied for the Radisson Rewards Premier Credit Card last year 2020 because of its high 120k sign-up bonus points. The 120k bonus points offer is still available. This credit card has a $75 annual fee, but I did not really want to keep the card after a year. So I decided to call in to close the card.
The first customer service agent had to transfer me to another agent to assist me with closing the account. When that next agent came up, she offered me a couple retention offers without me asking for any retention offers in the first place:
    • Downgrade to the no-fee Radisson credit card or,
    • Receive $50 statement credit.
The first offer is out of the picture. But the second offer made me wonder a little bit. The annual fee on the Radisson Rewards Premier Credit Card is $75, so by getting the $50 statement credit, that will reduce the annual fee to only $25.
Radisson Rewards Premier Credit Card offers 40,000 bonus Radisson points when you renew your card each year, so $25 in exchange for those anniversary 40,000 bonus points, I decided to keep the card for another year. There are more perks such as complimentary Radisson Rewards Gold status for room-upgrade, in-room welcome gift, early check-in, late check-out and 15 qualifying nights towards next tier status for simply having this credit card. These are good benefits to have, but I already have Radisson Rewards Business Visa Card which offers the same benefits.
