Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card is one of the top hotel's credit cards out there that offer tremendous benefits in terms of top elite Hilton Diamond status, $250 airline fees credit, $250 Hilton resort credit, free weekend night certificate, airport Priority Pass Lounge access and so much more. The Aspire card comes with a hefty $450 annual fee, but its benefits can justify that fee easily if you are able to enjoy all the benefits that this credit card offers. Here's why.

However, not everyone feels the same way about this credit card. Some might rarely stay with Hilton or do not travel that much to really take advantage of those benefits to outweigh the $450 cash out of the pocket every year. With that being said, those do not wish to keep the Aspire card can either downgrade the card to a much lower annual fee or simply cancel the card.

American Express Term on Canceling Hilton Aspire Card and Complimentary Diamond Status Benefit

According to Amex term, you will lose your Hilton Honors Diamond status if you cancel your Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card. See below:
    Hilton Honors Complimentary Diamond Status
You will receive complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond status with your Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. Complimentary Diamond status benefit is only available to the Basic Card Member. If your Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card is cancelled for any reason, your complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond status provided with the Card will be cancelled. American Express reserves the right to change, modify or revoke complimentary Diamond status at any time.

Can You Keep Hilton Diamond Status After You Cancel or Downgrade Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card?

Although Amex term above says that you will not be able to keep your Hilton Diamond status if you no longer have Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card, in practice that's not the case.

You will continue to keep your Hilton Diamond status until the next re-qualifying year which is the end of March next calendar year. For example, you cancel Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card in June 2020, so your Hilton Diamond status will be still good until March 31, 2021. This means that you still get to enjoy all Hilton Diamond benefits from June through the end of 2020, plus 3 additional months in 2021. Therefore, plan according as to 'when' you want to downgrade or cancel your Hilton Aspire credit card.

    Conclusion

Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card offers card holder complimentary instant automatic upgrade to Diamond Elite Status in Hilton Honors program. According to Amex term, you will lose Hilton Diamond status if you cancel the card or no longer have the card. However, Amex practice often differs from published term and policy. Although you no longer have the Aspire card, you are still able to keep Hilton Diamond status until the next re-qualifying year which is March 31 of next year.

While I personally love Amex Hilton Honors Aspire Card, not every one feels the same way. Should you decide to close the card, it's worth calling up American Express for retention offer to see if they can offer you any Hilton points bonus. It does not hurt to ask! Alternatively, you can also downgrade to a much lower annual fee or no annual fee personal Hilton credit card, but by doing that will make you ineligible for any welcome bonus of that Hilton credit card in the future.Â
