Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort in Hawaii exceeded my expectations regarding the resort, elite suite upgrades, and benefits.

Andaz Maui is one of the most redeemed Hawaiian resorts in Maui if you want to use the World of Hyatt points to redeem for free night stays; therefore, you must plan in advance. We had a wonderful stay at the Andaz Maui, and here’s my review, along with some photos and videos:
Adults-Only Pool at Andaz Maui
Table of Contents  [show/hide]

    Location

Andaz Maui is a beachfront property located in Wailea. A long stretch of sandy beach walk and hiking trails are just a few stone’s throws away from the property.
This is an ideal location for beachgoers and sun seekers, or you can simply lay around the resort’s multi-level pools for rest and relaxation.

    Andaz Suite

As a Hyatt’s Globalist elite member, you can receive an upgrade up to the Standard Suite, which is the Andaz Suite. However, Andaz Maui is a popular resort in Maui among the World of Hyatt elite members. Thus, getting a free upgrade to the Andaz Suite is impossible due to limited availability.
Your best option is to contact Hyatt and use Hyatt Suite Night Awards immediately when you see availability to have the property block the Andaz Suite for your stay. Getting a complimentary upgrade to the Andaz Suite with your Globalist elite status is hard. That is exactly what I did; as soon as I booked the Standard room using World of Hyatt points, I reached out to the Globalist concierge desk right away to use the Hyatt Suite Night Awards for my 3-night stay at Andaz Maui.
Reading reviews online, Andaz Suite at Andaz Maui was underwhelming. For what it is worth, it does not offer any ocean views other than you getting a suite room with more space to move around. I thought to lock in the Andaz Suite and then asked the resort for a further upgrade.

    Suite Room Upgrades

As mentioned above, immediately after I redeemed World of Hyatt points for a 3-night stay at Andaz Maui, I reached out to my Globalist Concierge and asked her to apply one of my Hyatt Suite Night Awards to the reservation as the Standard Suite (Andaz Suite) was available.
Andaz Maui resort is one of the toughest resorts to use Hyatt Suite Night Awards, let alone standard room award redemption, so plan accordingly.
A few days before my check-in date, I received a welcome email from the Guest Experience Manager at Andaz Maui. I utilized that email to inquire about a possible upgrade from the standard Andaz Suite room. From my research, the Andaz Suite room at Andaz Maui is nice but has no ocean views. So I requested that, and she noted my reservation so.
A couple days before my check-in date, I noticed the room type in my reservation in the Hyatt app had changed to the Partial View Suite, which retails at over $2,000 per night. I was stoked, and then one day before my check-in date, the room type changed to the Poolside Suite, which retails a bit lower than the Partial View Suite. After discussing with my travel companion, we decided to stick with the Poolside Suite because we have been to many ocean-view rooms/suites throughout our travels, and having direct access to a semi-private swimming pool right in front of your lanai is something different and creates more memory.

Andaz Maui Pool Side Suite Review

The Poolside Suite at Andaz Maui is big. They turn two rooms into one suite with a living room on one side and a bedroom on another. Both sides offer a sliding door onto a lanai that offers direct access to the pool.

Our suite number is 126, located on the first floor in the Makai Wing building. There are only 3 poolside suites at Andaz Maui, and our suite is the last. Picture the suite locations this way, 1-2-3 suites layout, and ours is the third looking from the swimming pool. It was nice because it felt secluded, especially since the next-door standard room was not occupied. See the picture below.

Upon opening the suite, on the left, there was an extra toilet room with a fully functional sink and a toilet.
In the living room, there’s a long desk with a welcome note and gift snacks, and behind the desk, there is a big mini bar cabinet with a refrigerator.

The sofa bed is also in the living room, and the tv is hung across from it. If you are traveling with children, the sofa bed is perfect for them!

A sliding door in the living room opens up to a lanai with two sitting chairs and a small table. In front of them is the community pool shared among three Poolside Suites, and I’ll talk more about it below. You are also greeted with coconut trees, lush resort green plants, and bird sights.

The bedroom has a big King bed, pillows, a tv, and a white sitting chair. The space is enough to move around inside the bedroom.

Moving on, there’s also another sliding door that leads to the lanai or patio with two comfortable lounge chairs, a basket filled with pool towels, and the same views as the views from the lanai of the living room. I like that Andaz Maui built a divider separating the lanai from the bedroom and living room.

The bathroom is gorgeous! A double vanity sink and a round bathtub design are beautiful. The closet has a bathrobe, a safe, and slippers. There’s also a separate bathroom with a bidet and a scale, and what is odd is that there is an art display inside that bathroom. You can see that in my quick tour of the Poolside Suite video.

The shower is a standup shower with lots of water pressure. You have to wait for a while for the water to get hot because the hot water takes a while to get to the suite, so if you were frustrated waiting, you’re not alone because it was not clear to us either. The red color knob causes more confusion. I always wondered why every hotel and resort could not develop a standardized showerhead!
What I find strange about the Poolside Suite is the light control for lights and blinds. There are just too many, which could be confusing and unnecessary.

Another small issue about the Poolside Suite is the air blows on you while sleeping if you set the fan always on or auto whenever it kicks in.
Here’s a quick tour video I made for the Andaz Maui Poolside Suite:

    Poolside Suite Swimming Pool

Review Hyatt Globalist Upgrades and Benefits at Andaz Maui At Wailea Resort in Hawaii
Andaz Maui Pool Side Direct Access Pool
The pool for all Poolside Suites is comfortably heated and shallow, about 3 feet. Only three (3) suites at Andaz Maui offer direct access to that pool, so generally, the pool is a community pool shared between the three units: 126, 130, and 134 suite room numbers. I was lucky that the other guests at the other two suites didn’t swim or lay on their lanai a lot when we were there, so it’s like having a private pool to ourselves.

    Andaz Maui Pool Side Suites
Each suite has direct steps into the pool, but if I have to pick a suite location, I avoid the one at the end, suite number 134, because, if you look at the picture below, the space between the swimming area and the steps is really small.

The suite pool area is completely shaded throughout the day. We love shade more than lying in the sun, which was perfect for us. If you are seeking to sunbathe and stay at the poolside suite, just a few steps away from the poolside suite pool is the much larger adults-only pool. You can enjoy that pool and sunbath as much as you want.

    Club Lounge

Andaz Maui does not have a club lounge for Globalist elite members. There’s a lounge in the Makai Wing called Ohana Lounge, where the poolside suites are. But it’s not a club lounge that offers food and beverages; it’s more of a hospitality lounge/business center for early check-out guests to print documents, shower, etc.

    Welcome Amenity

The table has a welcome note and a few snacks inside the suite room from the Guest Experience Manager. The Beef Chips are different and taste very good!

Welcome Gifts Inside the Suite Room
After checking me in as a Hyatt’s Globalist member, the front desk guy put an orange turtle sticker on the key holder and told me to stop by the onsite Mokapu Market during my stay to receive a welcome gift. The gift choices are:
    • Chocolate Bar
    • Three Maconomian Nuts Types
    • A Bottle of Red Wine or a Sparkling Rose
We picked the Sparkling Rose as I’m not a fan of red wine. So that was a nice gesture for Globalist recognition at Andaz Maui

    Food & Beverage Credits

Andaz Maui does not offer any food and beverage credits besides the complimentary buffet breakfast for Globalist elite members plus one guest.

    Breakfast

The complimentary breakfast for Globalists at Andaz Maui is wonderful. There are quite a lot of selections for everyone.

    Globalist Complimentary Breakfast
Fried eggs and omelets can be ordered directly from the server, so you can immediately go around the omelet cooking area. Bacon meats are crispy as the way I love them. They also have rotating items between fried rice and noodles, pork belly and ham, etc.

    Breakfast Omelettes
The breakfast takes place at the onsite Ka’ana Kitchen. As a Globalist elite member, you and one additional guest get the buffet breakfast free.
After your breakfast, the server brings the bill to your table with an 18% gratuity automatically included, and the bill has your name and room number, so the waiter knows your Globalist status, and all you have to do is to sign the check, and you are all good.
The breakfast value at the Andaz Maui is steep, $49 per person before taxes and the 18% gratuity. The bill is comped with your Globalist elite status, including the 18% gratuity. However, please note that any alcoholic drinks and additional tips are not comped with Globalist benefits.

    Dining

Andaz Maui has three main restaurants: Ka’ana Kitchen, Lehua Lounge, and Morimoto.
Morimoto is owned independently, though you can charge your dining bill to your room. But if you plan on doing any World of Hyatt dining promotions to earn extra World of Hyatt bonus points that do not require you to stay at the resort, you cannot do so because it’s not technically part of the Andaz Maui resort. You can go with the other two onsite restaurants because they are part of the Andaz Maui resort.
Morimoto at Andaz Maui by the iron chef  Masaharu Morimoto and the food tastes excellent if you enjoy upscale Japanese dining. Reservation is required.

    Resort Fee

Andaz Maui has a resort fee, but the fee is waived on award stays with World of Hyatt

    Parking

Valet parking only, and it costs $48 per day! Globalist elite members receive complimentary parking on award stays.

    Courtesy Car

The front desk registrar let me know at check-in that Andaz Maui also offers a courtesy vehicle for guests that wish to go around the resort area, such as Wailea and Kihei, for any shopping or dining needs, but you cannot take it too far beyond those areas, such as Road-to-Hana or Haleakala National Park 🙂

    Beach

Andaz Maui is a true beachfront property.
In front of the property, the beach is very nice and sandy, but it’s not a private beach, exclusively for Andaz guests only.
Guests can take advantage of the complimentary beach umbrellas and chairs to enjoy the ocean and sunbathe. Guests can also enjoy a long stretch of sandy beach walk and other water activities such as swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling. We did see a couple of turtles while walking the beach.

    Activities

Andaz Maui offers a few interesting activities for guests. A couple of them are not complimentary. We participated in the Mixology activity, and it was fun. You can enjoy three free alcoholic drinks made during the class session.
Below is the activities sheet that was provided by the resort to me. You should inquire about the latest information on each activity and schedule available at Andaz Maui

    Pet Policy

Andaz Maui allows pets. Here’s the policy:
    • Fees: $100 per stay
    • Weight Limits
      • One dog: 50 pounds
      • Two dogs: 75 pounds combined

    Bottled Water

Andaz Maui offers reusable bottled water like the nearby Marriott Wailea Beach Resort. We were offered two water bottles at the check-in desk and a bag with Andaz Maui’s name.

    Early Check-in

As soon as I was satisfied with the suite room type shown in the World of Hyatt app, I performed check-in online. So as soon as the suite was ready, I got notified around 3pm, while the regular check-in time was 4pm. I really like that feature in the World of Hyatt app.

    Late Check-out

I did not request a late check-out because we had to leave for the Hana-Maui Resort in Hana. So we checked out according to the regular check-out time of 11am. As a Globalist elite member, you can request a late check-out until 4pm, subject to availability.

    Spa

Yes, available, but we did not use the service.

    Fitness Center

Yes, available. The fitness center overlooks the adults-only pool at Andaz Maui.

    In-Room Safe

Yes, inside the drawer in the closet of the suite.

    Robes & Slippers

Yes, one robe can be found in the closet, and another is hung by the shower.

There are four (4) levels of swimming pools at Andaz Maui for guests located in the main section.
    • The lowest level is perfect for a family that travels with children. There’s also a pool bar there called Bumbye Beach Bar.
    • The second and third levels are perfect for adults and sunbathing.
    • The fourth level is close to the Lehua Lounge bar. Many people prefer to stay at the second and third-level infinity pools. The second-level pool has a lot of lounge chairs, while the third-level pool has only a few. You will likely find lounge seats on the second level rather than the third level during a busy time.
    • All pools are comfortably heated.
The adults-only pool is on the other side of the resort’s main ar is also where the poolside access suites are located. The sun at the adults-only pool is not as good as the main pools, but if you want to avoid crowds, the adults-only pool is the way to go!
