On my trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia, I decided to check out the fairly new Muir, Autograph Collection by Marriott, located on the scenic waterfront boardwalk.

The Muir hotel definitely takes the crown for being one of the most luxurious hotels in Halifax. As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I received a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful water view room with a lovely balcony. The staff is friendly, and the on-property wellness center is amazing!

How to Pronounce Muir and What Does Muir Mean?

If you are as curious as me, I had to ask the front desk clerk how to pronounce Muir. It sounds like saying “Myur.” The meaning of it is based on the Scots Gaelic for “Sea,” according to the front desk.
Indeed, the Muir, Autograph Collection complements the meaning of the word well because of its prime waterfront location.

    Location

The location of the Muir, Autograph Collection property is excellent, and it’s centrally located and just steps away from the famous Halifax waterfront boardwalk.
The Muir hotel offers a convenient downtown location to enjoy most of Halifax’s attractions, including dining, shopping, and entertainment – all are within walking distance of the hotel.

    Muir Hotel Halifax Rates

The rates at the Muir, Autograph Collection hotel in Halix can be high, around 400 CAD per night. However, the good news is that you can use Marriott Bonvoy points or a Marriott Free Night Certificate to redeem for a completely free stay. I’ll show you how at the end of this review.

    Room Upgrades

I used Marriott Free Night 50k Certificate and booked right into the Signature Double Queen Guestroom. Based on the picture provided by Marriott’s site, the Signature room type appears to have a water view but without a balcony.
Upon arrival, my Marriott Platinum Elite status was recognized, and I received a complimentary upgrade to the Waterview room with a good size balcony overlooking the bay and city. It was really beautiful.
While walking around the Muir hotel property, I noticed that while most of their rooms have a partial view of the water, the ones with balconies are not that many.

    Room Review

The Signature Room with a balcony is beautiful. Since it was a new hotel when I was staying there, everything smelled new and fresh!

The design inside the room is very luxurious, and the bed is very comfortable. However, I did not love the pillows as much as I had hoped.
If you enjoy your room’s Autograph Collection amenities, you can check them out online through the Luxury Collection Store owned by Marriott.
The bathroom and design are good, but the rain shower’s water pressure is too low for my liking.

    Bathroom
My favorite part of the room is the balcony that offers both the city and the bay view. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening after a full day in Halifax and simply relaxing while waiting for the night to fall when things are lit up before calling it a night.

    Balcony
Overall, I truly enjoyed staying in the Balcony Signature Room at the Muir, Autograph Collection. You can check out the YouTube video that I took for the room below:

    Club Lounge

The Autograph Collection brand by Marriott Bonvoy does not have a Club Lounge for Marriott Platinum Elite and above. However, with your elite Platinum status and above, you receive complimentary breakfast at the on-site restaurant, the Drift. More below.

    Welcome Amenity

There are no welcome amenity points, only complimentary daily breakfast for you and up to 1 additional guest staying in the same guestroom.

    Food & Beverage Credits

The complimentary breakfast below is only available for Marriott Platinum Elite and above members or a room rate that includes breakfast.
However, the Muir, Autograph Collection also offers a CAD 8 for hot beverages and pastry upon checking in. The voucher is available for all guests regardless of the Marriott’s elite status.

    Complimentary Breakfast

    Complimentary Breakfast
As Marriott Platinum Elite and above member, you receive complimentary breakfast every morning for you and one guest staying in the same room at the on-site restaurant, Drift.
The breakfast credit has no maximum amount. You can order any items off the menu. At the end of your meal, you simply have the bill charged to the room. You sign the bill, and the hotel will take care of the rest by comping your total bill, including the gratuity.
My breakfast bill did not get comped as expected, but a simple phone call to the Muir hotel resolved the issue immediately. It may be due to the hotel being fairly new to the Marriott Bonvoy’s system.

    Muir Hotel Restaurant

The Drift is the main hotel restaurant with beautiful design inside out, and there’s also a bar adjacent to the Drift; however, I do not believe it’s owned by the hotel.

Muir, Autograph Collection also has an exclusive BKS lounge that serves cocktails and savory small plates. I did not have a chance to experience the drinks inside the lounge, but it looks very nice.

Furthermore, the prime central location of the Muir hotel Halifax makes it very convenient to check out other dining options outside the property. There are quite a few good seafood restaurants along the waterfront boardwalk.

    Resort Fee

There’s no resort fee at the Muir, Autograph Collection.

    Parking

Parking is available at the Muir, Autograph Collection and is valet only for CAD 35 per day. An electric car charging station is also available.

    Pet Policy

Pet lovers are going to love this. Muir, Autograph Collection allows up to a maximum of two (2) pets, free of charge.

    Housekeeping

    Yes, available.

    Internet/Wi-Fi

You can connect to Wi-Fi by connecting to it as Matttiott Bonvoy Guest. You can then access it free or pay extra for the Premium speed. Marriott Platinum Elite and above status level members get complimentary Premium Internet by having the bill comped at the end of the stay.

    Bottled Water

Unfortunately, I do not recall complimentary bottled water in the room.

    Early Check-In

The standard check-in time is 3 PM, and early check-in is always subject to the property.
I took the red-eye flight to Halifax and arrived at the property in the AM. Fortunately, Muir hotel was very accommodating and allowed us to check into the room that morning to catch some sleep before exploring Halifax. Being a Marriott Platinum Elite did help!

    Late Check-Out

The standard check-out time is 12 PM at the Muir, Autograph Collection.
Late check-out is available for Marriott Platinum Elite and above if requested and subject to availability.

    Spa Wellness Center

Muir, Autograph Collection has a Wellness Center located on the second floor. It has a beautiful, inviting swimming pool and two sauna rooms. One sauna has a special air treatment, and appointments are required to use those sauna rooms. I highly recommend checking them out during your stay because they are complimentary to all guests. This is not a typical spa that offers massaging services etc. The center closes at 9 PM daily.

    Swimming Pool

The Muir, Autograph Collection pool is located on the second floor inside the Wellness Center mentioned above. It’s such a gorgeous pool and looks very inviting. There are also large comfortable lounge seats there. The pool is heated, and there’s another small pool that’s not heated, but I think it’s meant for when you are done with the sauna, and you can take a quick dip in there.

If you like arts, Muir, Autograph Collection also has a small art gallery room that contains some pottery and arts on the wall display. You can also purchase each item if desired, and I was told it opens at 9 AM daily.
