I am not quite sure whether I enjoyed my stay at the Marriott’s Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection in Canberra, Australia. The rooms are small, and there’s no view whatsoever because of how the hotel rooms are inside the residential apartment complex. On the other hand, there are also some good amenities at the property too. Here’s the detailed review:

Location

Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection has a good location because it’s within walking distance of the Canberra City Center. You’ll be able to walk to shops, restaurants, and bars nearby. However, please note that the hotel is not within walking distance of Canberra’s top attraction, Government Triangle, such as the Canberra Parliament Houses. But taking buses from the hotel is convenient because of its central location. I think that was the main reason why I chose Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection in the first place.

Room Upgrades

I redeemed Marriott Bonvoy points for the Midnight Classic room type at Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, and got an upgrade to the Midnight Lounge, a Larger Room as a Marriott Platinum Elite member, one day before arrival. The hotel does recognize Marriott Bonvoy’s elite members, and they do provide suite upgrades to elite members, but they were all sold out during my visit. The property has both Junior Suites and regular Suites available for elite complimentary upgrades.

Room Review

My room at Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, is room 419. There are higher floors at the hotel up to the 8th floor, so getting a lower 4th floor wasn’t my first choice. However, all the hotel room views are not that great. More below.

The Midnight Lounge room type is categorized as a Larger Room, but it is not as large as its name suggests. Therefore, it makes me wonder if that’s the large room, what the standard Midnight Classic room type is like?

As a result, I don’t really like the Midnight Lounge room at Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection. However, the king bed and pillows are comfortable, and the TV is hung on the wall.

There’s also a lounge chair, a small table, and a sitting chair inside the room.

The bathroom also has a walk-in shower, which I like. Moreover, the bathroom space is good, and perhaps that’s my favorite part of the room.

Furthermore, views do not exist from the rooms at Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection. The hotel is one small part of a residential apartment complex, and therefore, all the rooms were built facing each other, so the only view you have is the other guestroom through a rather small window.

Club Lounge

The Midnight Hotel is an Autograph Collection brand, so there is no club lounge for Marriott Bonvoy elite members.

Welcome Amenity

Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, offers generous welcome amenity choices for Marriott Platinum Elite members and above.

Upon check-in, I was provided a sheet of paper that had top and bottom choices for me to pick. The top portion has drinks or food or 1,000 points, and the bottom portion has 750 points or complimentary breakfast. See the following photo below.

Food & Beverage Credits

None, but there’s a free minibar, which is replenished each day. See below.

Complimentary Minibar

Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, offers a complimentary minibar, which is excellent. The benefit applies to all guests, whether they have elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy program or not. However, don’t expect several items in the minibar fridge inside the room.

The following are the free minibar items:

  • A box of milk.
  • A small bottle of white wine
  • A couple of beers
  • One Sprite Zero
  • One can of the regular Coke
  • A small bottle of still water
  • A small bottle of sparkling water.

If you need extra minibar drinks on the same day, you’ll have to pay (see the price below). Otherwise, the minibar is replenished daily. Therefore, make sure you do not put on the do not disturb sign.

Breakfast

I chose free breakfast as my welcome amenity gift for being a Marriott Platinum Elite member. The breakfast is not buffet and can be enjoyed at the onsite restaurant, Braddon Merchant, which serves breakfast from 6:30 am to 10:30 am daily.

The Braddon Merchant restaurant has two types of menus, front and back. The front menu is the regular menu that does not apply to Marriott Bonvoy’s elite breakfast. Once you are seated, the waiter will ask for your room number to determine your breakfast inclusion benefit. For the free elite breakfast, you will need to look at the menu on the back. Both menus are essentially the same, but Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, wants to make things clear about what is and what is not included in the elite breakfast. Moreover, you do not need to sign any bill after consuming the breakfast.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool at Midnight Hotel, Autograph Collection, is a long lap pool, and it looks gorgeous.
