My Experience Requesting Upgrade Using Marriott Suite Night Awards (SNAs)
|
Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort Junior Suite |
I earned five (5) Marriott Suite Night Awards (SNAs) from reaching the Marriott Platinum Elite status. I selected those SNAs as part of the Marriott Annual Gift Choice Benefit.
I decided to apply the Suite Night Awards for our five-night stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort. The suite options at the time were:
- 1 Bedroom Suite Oceanfront
- Junior Suite Oceanfront
- Premium rooms with ocean views or oceanfront
I chose the 1 Bedroom Suite and Junior Suite options. Marriott Suite Night Awards would not clear until 5 days before the check-in date. So a week before check-in, I noticed that the 1 Bedroom Suite room types were not available for booking using cash, but the Junior Suites were still available for booking. Within the 5 days window before the check-in date, I received a notification from Marriott via email that my room had been upgraded to the Junior Suite Oceanfront Corner Room with a sofa bed and a private balcony. My online reservation was also updated to reflect the upgrade as well.

When we arrived at check-in, the front desk receptionist asked to see our full vaccination card. It is essential to know that Puerto Rico has a travel declaration form for COVID-9 entry requirements. You can find more information in the
article here.
The front desk receptionist assigned us the Junior Suite Corner Room on the 6th floor that is NOT facing the swimming pool, for which we were grateful (more below as to why). There are 12 floors in the building, but our Junior Suite on the 6th floor still offers stunning views of the Isla Verde beach and a non-obstructed ocean view from our long private balcony.
The Junior Suite at the Courtyard Isla Verde is a large corner room with a sofa bed, two windows, and a balcony. The side window just looks out to the other nearby condominium, while the other large window/door takes you out to the private balcony for a complete full oceanfront view.

Overall, the Courtyard Isla Verde Junior Suite was lovely, but I would not categorize it as a luxury by any means. It was pleasant, comfortable, spacious, and most importantly, it offered a beautiful full oceanfront view.

Courtyard Isla Verde Resort Airplane Noise
It’s worth mentioning that each room at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort offers either an ocean view or a partial ocean view. It’s a matter of whether your room is located on the lower or higher floor to really enjoy the views (see the photo below).
Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort is very close to the San Juan Internationa Airport, and the runway is literally across from the property. You can hear the airplanes taking off noise from time to time. Personally, the airport or airplane noise did not bother us as much as the wedding party that seemed to go on a lot there.
Fortunately, our Junior Suite Corner Room is far away from all that, and thus we did not hear the plane noise or the wedding music party. I recommend letting the resort know that you want a room NOT facing the swimming pool. Otherwise, you may be bothered by the music party that can go on until midnight. You do not want the room on that side, as shown in the photo, and you want the room on the other side of the building.

Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Airport Shuttle
Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort does not offer an airport shuttle. However, the resort is very close to the airport, and it takes approximately 5 minutes to drive from San Juan International Airport (SJU) to reach the property.
Uber is also available at the rideshare pick-up area and costs only about $5-$7. This is an opportunity to use your monthly Amex Uber Credits too.
$20 Food And Beverage Credit
As a Marriott Platinum Elite status member, you will receive a $20 food and beverage credit per day. The way the credit works is that when you dine in the on-site restaurant or lounge bar, you simply charge the bill, including the tips, to your room. The hotel’s system will automatically apply the $20 credit to your portfolio bill. On your final statement after you check-out, you will see it as an “overage” transaction. That simply means that your dining bill has a $20 credit applied.

Welcome Drinks Rum & Pineapple
|
It is also worth mentioning that, Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort offers each room two welcome drinks vouchers at check-in whether you have elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy program or not. Each drink voucher can be used for any Barcardi rum and a flavor such as rum and coke, rum and pineapple, rum and mango, etc.

Sirena at Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Menu
The dining venues inside Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort consist of a coffee shop, Picante Lounge, and Sirena restaurant.
Serena restaurant is a seafood restaurant, so you can expect the menu item to be a bit pricey, but the food just tastes OK to me. You can access the
Sirena Courtyard Isla Verde menu here.
If you want to venture out to eat at a nearby restaurant. The closest one is the
Platos Restaurant which serves authentic Puerto Rican food, and on the weekend, they have live music entertainment. You can walk from the Courtyard Isla Verde to the restaurant in 10 minutes. More dining options outside the resort can be found 20 minutes away on foot, or you can take an Uber. There you will find more restaurants and shops along with Isla Verde beachfront resorts such as the
Fairmont El San Juan Hotel,
San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, and
Royal Sonesta San Juan, to name a few.

Courtyard Marriott Isla Verde Pool and Swim-Up Bar Hours
|
Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort Swimming Pool |
I love that the swimming pool at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort opens until midnight every day.
The swim-up bar opens at 11 o’clock in the afternoon.
The swimming pool at the
Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort is a pretty good size, and it has a swim-up bar called
Papaya Grill which offers some quick bites and, of course, cocktails, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks. Pool services are also available.
We found that the seats at the swim-up bar are a little bit too low. When you sit down, your body is actually in the water, making it uncomfortable to sit there when the temperature cools down. Otherwise, it is a lovely enjoyable swimming pool with a swim-up bar.
