The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is one of the best travel cards for beginners. The card earns Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) points, which are flexible points that you can redeem for travel or transfer to Chase Airline and Hotel Transfer Partners such as United Airlines, Southwest, Hyatt, MARRIOTT, and more.

The Sapphire Preferred card has a low $95 annual fee, and you get a $50 Hotel Credit. The benefit lowers the annual fee to $45 before all other travel benefits that this credit card offers you.

Downgrade Options

  • Chase Freedom Flex Credit Card:ย No annual fee.
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited Credit Card:ย No annual fee.

Upgrade Option

You can upgrade Sapphire Preferred to Sapphire Reserve; however, I do not recommend doing so because you may miss out on the great welcome bonus offer on the Reserve card. The Reserve also has a much higher annual fee.
