I wanted to check out the Oktoberfest in Munich and wanted to stay within walking distance in case I drank too many beers. The nightly rates of hotels in the area during that event are generally expensive. However, with some advanced planning, I was able to use the Marriott Free Night 35k Certificate and top it off with 7k points to get one free night stay at the Aloft Munich. The hotel is close to the Munich Central Station and takes around 15-20 minutes to walk to the Oktoberfest location, Theresienwiese, depending on how fast you walk.

Aloft Munich Location
Aloft Munich is right in front of the Munich Central Station, making it convenient for Munich to go sightseeing on foot and use public transportation. It’s also central enough to walk to the Oktoberfest event location (Theresienwiese) or the Marienplatz.
Room Upgrade
I checked in at Aloft Munich during the Oktoberfest, so there’s no room upgrade available despite my Marriott Platinum Elite status. It’s understandable, and I also did not expect much either. There are seven floors at the hotel, and my room is on the 6th floor by the elevator.
Aloft Munich Room Review
My standard award King with City View room, also known as Urban Room, at Aloft Munich, is on the 6th floor, number 602. It’s by the elevator.
The room is more spacious than I expected. The bathroom is also nice and stylish, with a walk-in shower and amenities.
The bedroom section has a comfortable king-size bed and pillows. The linens are also clean and comfortable. Moreover, there are a couple of desks to store things and a funky fat boy chair. Overall, it’s a basic guest room but good enough for a one-night stay.
The description of my booked standard King room called for a City View, but my room 602 does not offer any city views. The small windows look at other hotel guest room’s windows. Therefore, the view is horrible, but it is what it is. See the following photo.
Club Lounge
Aloft brand, however, does not have a club lounge for Marriott Platinum Elite and above members.
Welcome Amenity
As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I was asked to choose between 500 points or breakfast as a welcome amenity at check-in. I chose the breakfast because it offers greater value than Marriott Bonvoy points.
In-Room Gift
There are also three varieties of sweet Chocolate treats inside the refrigerator.

Aloft Munich Free Breakfast
The breakfast welcome amenity at Aloft Munich for elite members is a complimentary buffet with a variety of hot and cold selections. It’s not a huge buffet breakfast, but it is good enough to satisfy your breakfast hunger. Coffee, tea, and juices are also included.
You must check in with the staff before seated at the breakfast area. You give them your room number and sign a piece of paper. That’s it! More outside seating is also available.

At check-in, Aloft Munich staff informed me to do a mobile check-in because that’s the only way to know if the room is ready for possible early check-ins.
Early check in wasn’t available for me, but understandable it was during the Oktoberfest. The regular check-in time is 3 pm, and I saw the room number ready in the app was around 2 pm.
Late Check-out
I did not ask for a late check-out, but it may not be easy as it was Oktoberfest, and they were completely sold out.

Laundry Room
Aloft Munich has a laundry room located on the second floor. However, I must warn you that those washers and dryers are not the fastest machines to do laundry, and you have to factor in the wait times in case there are other guests. Moreover, the number of machines is very limited too. The dryer also took us at least 2 hours to dry our clothes completely. However, the good thing about the laundry rooms at Aloft Munich is they are free to use, and you only need to buy the detergent from the front desk for 2 Euros.
