How to Redeem and Maximize $200 Amex Platinum Card’s Uber Credit [2023]

    How Does Amex Consumer Platinum Card’s Uber Cash Benefit Works?

    The way Amex $200 Uber Credit benefit works:
    • You receive up to $15 in Uber Cash each month, from January through
      December      . 
    • You receive an additional $20 in Uber Cash for the month of December. Total
      $200 per year. 
    You will NOT see Amex Uber statement credit in your American Express Platinum Card‘s account like Amex Dell Statement Credits and Amex Saks Fifth Avenue Statement Credits benefits. Uber Cash through Amex benefit is added automatically to your Uber account each month after adding your American Express Platinum Card as a payment method in the Uber app. 

    Do Amex Uber Credits Roll Over?

    Amex Uber cash credit does not roll over, meaning you must use the credit each month, and any unused balance will not carry over to the following month. 
    Here’s the Amex’s official terms and conditions for Uber credit:

    Amex Benefit may be applied to all Uber car types and on Uber Eats orders
    where Uber Cash can be applied. If your Amex Benefit in your Uber Cash
    balance does not satisfy the cost of your ride or order, the primary payment
    method on your Uber account will be charged for the difference. There is no
    limit to the number of transactions you may apply your Amex Benefit to each
    month, up to a total of $15 per month (up to a total of $35 in December). 

    If a transaction is eligible for another promotion that you have added to your Uber account, the promotion will be applied before your Amex Benefit. Certain other types of balances in Uber Cash may be applied to the cost of your ride or order prior to your Amex Benefit in Uber Cash. 

    Does Amex Uber Credit Work Internationally?

    No. Amex Uber credit does not apply to Uber charges internationally. Currently, the benefit may only be applied within the United States. 

    How to Redeem $200 Uber Credit With Amex Platinum Card?

    Uber consists of Uber Rides, Uber Eats, and selected locations Uber Groceries. The Amex Uber Cash benefit applies to all three services. 
    To activate the Amex Uber Cash benefit, here’s how you would do it:
    • You will need an Uber account, and if you are new to Uber, you can sign-up here for free. 
    • Log into your Amex account and scroll down to view the Amex Offers & Benefits. Find all available Uber offers and add those offers to your Amex Platinum card. If there’s no offer, it is okay, and let’s move on. 
    • Download the Uber or Uber EATS app from your mobile phone’s app store. 
    • After that, log into your account and add your American Express Platinum Card as a payment method. To do so:
      • Click on the Account, Wallet, and Add Payment Method within the Uber Eats app. OR
      • Click on the Menu 3 Lines on the top, then Wallet and Add Payment Method within the Uber Ride app. within the Uber Ride app. 
    • Sometimes you may need to close and re-launch the app to see the credits. 
    • Place your Uber Eats order and enjoy!

    In addition, Uber One now also includes ride benefits. You can save 10% on your first 3 eligible rides each month, available at the start of your next billing cycle. Eligible rides include:
    • UberX, UberXL, Uber Green, and Uber Comfort
    • Uber Black, Uber Premier, and Uber Black SUV

    Maximizing Amex Uber Cash Credit Ideas

    Combine Multiple Uber Credits In One Uber Account

    Suppose you have multiple American Express cards that offer monthly Uber credits, such as American Express Platinum Card and American Express Gold Card. In that case, you can combine all Uber credits into one Uber account. 
    Moreover, suppose a friend or more than one person in your family has an American Express Platinum Card and American Express Gold Card. In that case, you can also use his or her Amex Uber credit added to your Uber account and vice versa. 
    Uber does not care whose card it is added as the Payment Method; Uber automatically recognizes the Amex card’s type and adds the credit accordingly. This is beneficial if one family member can benefit from Uber credits more than the other.

    Use the Credit For Uber Rides

    This is an obvious choice here. You can use the Amex Uber Cash benefit to pay for a ride, and the Amex Uber benefit applies to all Uber car types, including Uber VIP. 
    Uber app pulls your monthly Amex Uber Cash after any applicable promo in your Uber account to pay for the ride, then you pay for any differences afterward. 

    Use the Credit For Uber Eats

    Simply download an Uber Eats app and log in with your existing Uber account. Amex Uber credit applies to food pickup and delivery services through the Uber Eats app. This is a great way to enjoy a meal at home from your favorite local restaurant and make good use of your Amex Uber credit.

    Use the Credit For Uber Groceries

    Uber decided to join other grocery delivery services in early 2020. At this writing, Uber Groceries are only available in select cities such as Dallas, Miami, and New York, with more cities launching soon.

    Sharing is caring! You can request a ride or order food delivery for another person, and this is a perfect way to care about someone while making good use of your Amex Uber credit. 

    Use the Credit With Uber One Benefits to Save Money

    Uber One is a fee-based subscription service offered by Uber, and its benefits are:
    • Unlimited $0 delivery fee and 5% off orders $15 at participating restaurants. 
    • Save 10% on your first 3 eligible rides each month for the following eligible Uber cars:
      • UberX, UberXL, Uber Green, and Uber Comfort
      • Uber Black, Uber Premier, and Uber Black SUV
    Uber One subscription fee is $9.99 per month. In my honest opinion, paying for Uber One is not worth it if you don’t use Uber services a lot. While paying a $0 delivery fee for an Uber Eats order is nice, you will find that a few restaurants offer no delivery fee when you pay x amount on a food order, but you have to hunt for that type of special offer. 
    I often do not use Uber or Uber Eats to justify paying for the monthly Uber One subscription. However, I enjoy Uber One benefits, but only if I can receive Uber One free or at a deeply discounted price.

    • Amex used to offer a complimentary Uber One subscription for 1 year, but unfortunately, the offer expired on December 31, 2021. 
    • At the time of this writing, there’s a new Uber One subscription available:
      • You pay $1.66 monthly via PayPal for 6 months of Uber One. The term says it’s only available for new subscribers, but it’s available for all from the data points I saw. You’ll be able to see the monthly fee before committing. 
      • The offer ends on June 30, 2022, or once 500,000 customers are reached. 
    Here’s how to pay $1.66 per month via PayPal for Uber One:
    I performed the steps below using a web browser on my computer’s desktop:
    • Pre-requisites: 
      • You must have an Uber account to sign-up for Uber One. 
        • If it is your first time using Uber Eats, use the promo code eats-phengl54ue at checkout to receive $20 off your first $25 order at Uber Eats. 
      • Ensure your Uber account links to your PayPal account as a Payment Method. You can find that in your Uber Account and Wallet. 
      • If you prefer to use a specific card stored in your PayPal to pay for the Uber One $1.66 per month, you need to go to your PayPal account and make sure the card is your default payment first because you will not be asked to select which card to use when you finalize the transaction later. 
    • Go to the Uber One PayPal offer website. 
    • Click on the Click to Save Offer button. 
    • Click on the Get Offer button. 
    • You are now redirected to the Uber Eats site and click on the Continue button. 
    • Successfully authenticate into your Uber Eats account. 
    • You are presented with the Uber One PayPal special offer and a $1.66 monthly subscription fee. Finalize your Uber One sign-up by making sure PayPal is your payment method. 
    • Remind yourself in the calendar to make sure you cancel the subscription before the offer ends after 6 months. Uber requires 48 hours to cancel an Uber One subscription without being charged for the next billing cycle. 

    Use the Credit & Earn Bonus Marriott Bonvoy Points

    You can earn up to 6X Marriott Bonvoy points with Uber. You can learn more about the Uber and Marriott partnership here, but here is the basic information:
    • You earn 6x points per dollar spent on Uber Eats orders of $25+ delivered to any hotel within the Marriott portfolio.
    • You earn 3x points per dollar spent on rides with UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber SUV, and Uber Black.
    • You earn 2x points per dollar spent on all other Uber Eats orders of $25+, including those from Marriott restaurants.
    • Must have a valid U.S. phone number.
    • You must link your Marriott Bonvoy account with Uber using the Uber app:
      • Open the Uber app.
      • Tap the menu in the upper left, then tap Settings.
      • Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page. Tap Marriott Bonvoy, then tap Link Account on the next screen.
      • Follow the instructions on the account-linking page in the app.
    • This offer applies to both Uber Rides and Uber Eats.

    What Happens to Unused Amex Platinum Card’s Uber Credit?

    Any unused balance in Uber Cash will not carry over to the following month. This is a benefit in each month that you use it or lose it. 
    Suppose you have exhausted all the options to use the credit. In that case, some data points from the points and miles community suggest that you reach out to American Express via chat or phone call and kindly ask if they are willing to give you a statement credit for your monthly unused Uber credit. Of course, this is a case-by-case scenario, but it never hurts to ask!

    Amex Uber Credit Not Showing Up
