Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort remains one of Marriott’s lowest award redemptions resorts. As a result, you can often use the Marriott Free Night 35k Certificate and top-up with some Marriott Bonvoy points to redeem for a free stay. However, the $40 daily resort fee plus taxes is not waived whether you pay with cash or points/free night certificates.

Reading the reviews on TripAdvisor concerned me a little bit, but while this is not a five-star luxurious resort, it offers good resort amenities to enjoy. In fact, our stay at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort was pleasant, and we will return.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Location

The Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is a beachfront property located merely a 10-minute drive from the historic Kapa’a town and Lihue International Airport. Having a vehicle provides more convenience when staying at the resort. However, it’s not a requirement because you can walk or take advantage of the free bike rental at the resort to other nearby places to shop and eat if you do not want to stay at the resort the entire time.

Room Upgrades

I redeemed my Marriott Free Night 35k Certificate plus 7,000 Marriott Bonvoy points for the lowest standard Garden View room. However, as a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I received an upgrade to the Oceanfront room. I noticed the upgrade when I looked at my reservation seven (7) days before arrival, so you can expect that this resort will proactively upgrade guest rooms several days before arrival.

Oceanfront Room at Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Oceanfront Room

The Oceanfront Room at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is the premium room type at the property. Therefore, the room is quite impressive with space, comfort, and the fantastic ocean/beach view from the room’s balcony. From walking around the resort, I noticed that there are only 36 rooms that are “oceanfront” with four levels.

My oceanfront room is on the third floor, number 335. There is so much space to move around and store things away. Moreover, I love the Hawaiian wooden decor of the closet, the sliding door to the balcony, and the hardwood floor throughout.

The king bed is comfortable, but the pillows are too soft and low. Inside the room are two turquoise armchairs, a long desk, and another sitting chair.

Moreover, the bathroom comes with a double vanity sink and is beautiful. It also has a walk-in shower and a good flushing toilet.

The balcony or lanai is also a great spot for incredible panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the sandy beach in front of the resort. Each morning, you will also enjoy the beautiful sunrise from the balcony. At night, you can also hear the sound of the waves if you leave your balcony door open.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with the Oceanfront room at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort and certainly appreciate the upgrade from the garden room to that room!

Executive Lounge

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is a resort, and thus, it does not have a club lounge for Marriott Platinum Elite and above members.

Welcome Amenity

As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort offered me a choice of 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or daily complimentary breakfast for two at the onsite restaurant. Therefore, without any hesitation, I chose the free breakfast.

Food & Beverage Credits

There’s no food and beverage credit at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort for Marriott Bonvoy elite members.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Breakfast

Marriott Platinum Elite and above members can receive complimentary buffet-style breakfast at the onsite restaurant DayBreak. The buffet breakfast typically costs $34 per person. A-la-carte item is also available based on the price on the menu. However, the complimentary breakfast is a buffet breakfast for Marriott elite members.

Breakfast consists of an omelet live cooking station. Also, the buffet options include egg benedict, scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausages, crispy bacon, potatoes, white rice, and waffles. There are also fruits and pastries, along with various condiments.

It’s a sit-in breakfast at the DayBreak, so if you want any coffee or tea, you have to tell the waiter. Otherwise, juices and water are available in the buffet area.

As far as the free breakfast benefit goes for Marriott elite members, you do not need to sign anything. Just show the breakfast voucher to the waiting staff and then leave the voucher on the table after you finish consuming your breakfast. You can also tip with cash if you appreciate the service as desired.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Dining

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort has a few onsite dining options, including an oceanfront bar that offers daily Happy Hour. See the following direct link to the resort’s dining options:

Resort Fee

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort has a $40 resort fee plus taxes, whether you pay for the room with cash or Marriott Bonvoy points.

The resort fee offers the following amenities:

  • Free self-parking
  • Internet access
  • Lawn games
  • Arcade access
  • Resort activities
  • Wellness Classes
  • In-room exercise kits
  • Shaved ice station
  • PressReader App
  • Bike cruiser
  • Beach chair rentals
  • Computer use in the business center

Parking

Self-parking is complimentary because it’s included in the resort fee. Valet parking is also available, but it’s not free and costs $20.

Bike Rental

Bike rental is free as it is part of the resort fee. The rental is first-come, first-served, and you can get it from the bellhop staff. You need to sign a waiver form with your room number, and then you can take the bike to wherever you want with no limited time.

There’s a paved pathway in front of the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort, but the path is not connected all the way through either direction. The bartender told me that the path to the left of the property was longer and could reach a famous beach (I forgot the name of it). We rented the bike for an hour and didn’t go too far as we did not want to adventure out.

Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that a free bike rental is a good option if you want to bike to restaurants nearby if you don’t want to eat at the resort.

Pet Policy

Unfortunately, Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort does not accept pets. However, the resort allows service animals.

Internet/Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, including the beach area. Also, there’s no password needed.

Bottled Water

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is a bit stingy with complimentary bottled water. There’s only one bottle and a $6 bottle of water in the room.

Early Check-in

Marriott Platinum Elite member’s benefit comes with an early check-in if available. However, I didn’t ask for a possible early check-in. I did mobile check-in a day before arrival and was notified that the room was ready around 2 pm on the day of arrival. The regular check-in time at Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is 3 pm.

Late Check-out

I did not ask for the late check-out, and the front desk staff did not offer one either. Although late check-out is one of the benefits for Marriott Platinum Elite members, it’s always subject to availability. The regular check-out time is 11 am, otherwise.

Spa

None

Fitness Center

Yes, at the lobby level.

In-Room Safe

Yes, available inside the closet.

Robes & Slippers

The robes are hung in the bathroom, and the slippers are inside the closet above the safe.

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort Swimming Pool

I like the swimming pool at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is heated. However, the pool can get crowded, and it can be challenging to find seats during the day. Night swimming is fun if you don’t mind a little cool because the pool is heated and the jacuzzi is next to it.

The pool area is lovely, with lounging chairs and red umbrellas. Moreover, the pool has two levels and a jacuzzi. The top-level pool offers a beautiful view of the ocean and the beach area, while the bottom-level pool is shallow and primarily for kids.

Beach at Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is a beachfront property. The sandy beach is just a stone’s throw away from the resort, offering convenient direct beach access. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so there’s no need to make any reservations. However, the amount of beach chairs available is limited so the competition can be fierce trying to get the seats. In addition, you will find hammocks around the beach area too.

The beach at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort is excellent. It’s soft and sandy; therefore, it is perfect for a beach walk. The current of the water is a bit strong for swimming, though. The long stretch of beach in front of the resort is lovely and enjoyable!

Other Amenities

The resort fee also includes access to the Arcade room, where there are arcade games and pool tables. In addition, there are also games on the lawn to keep you entertained.

Service

While I enjoyed and appreciated the upgraded room while staying at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort, the service fell short of my expectations. Staff appears as if they do not want to be there: no smiles, unfriendly at the front desk, and unattentive services offered at the breakfast.
