Review: Air France AF65 Business Class Boeing 777-300ER Los Angeles (LAX) to Paris (CDG)

PROS: Reverse herringbone, good food, lie-flat sky bed, and good amounts of space, legroom, and compartments.
CONS: Wi-Fi is not free, lack of suite doors, tight cabins between seats, slow service, free text messaging but not working well, and the tray table is slightly tricky to stow away.
Air France Business Class passengers use the Sky Priority line at Terminal B, Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at LAX for check-in. The check-in counter is from C1-C7 and opens about 4 hours before departure.
Have your TSA PreCheck or Global Entry numbers ready if you want PreCheck on your boarding passes to go through TSA security. After getting your boarding passes, turn left for the TSA PreCheck security. The security on the right is not a TSA PreCheck.
Air France contracts with the oneworld alliance lounge at TBIT for business class passengers. You can also access the SkyTeam Korean Air Lounge, but it’s smaller and not as nice as the oneworld lounge. Air France is also working on building their own lounge since 2022 at LAX airport.
If you want another nice new lounge at LAX, there’s the Delta Air Lines lounge at Terminal 3. But terminal 3 is not connected to TBIT, so you’ll have to take the bus there and back to TBIT as Air France leaves from TBIT. Delta and Air France are parts of the Sky Team, so you can use the Delta Lounge with your Air France boarding pass.
Below is the review of the oneworld Lounge at LAX, and please note that it requires around 15 minutes to walk from the lounge to the Air France departure gate, so plan accordingly.
Air France uses facial recognition technology to board at the gate. No scanning passports or boarding passes are needed unless your boarding pass has issues.

Seats and Cabin
This Air France Boeing 777 has the La Première cabin, the Air France First Class. Behind the First Class are two Business Class cabins. The front cabin is better than the rear cabin because it has only 16 Business Class seats compared to 45 Business Class seats in the rear cabin. The front Business Class cabin is quieter and offers more privacy, so I would pick any seat there. Check out the seat map here.
The seats are reverse herringbone, 1-2-1 arranged so everyone has direct aisle access. The cabin between seats is a bit tight, so while I love the reverse herringbone types of business class seats, it still does not offer a full privacy feel, especially with the lack of doors. It is good that Air France is installing doors on their Business Class seats, including the Boeing triple sevens. The New York to Paris is the current USA route that offers Business Class Suites with doors, so hopefully, other USA routes will soon get the suite doors too. The easiest way to determine whether your Air France Business Class flight has doors is to look at Google flights. If it says lie-flat, then it does not have a door. If it says Suite, then it has a door.

Overall, Air France Business Class seats on the Boeing 777 are good seats with decent compartments to store your laptop and other things. Plenty of space and legroom with a nice touchscreen entertainment monitor. The tray is a bit tricky to stow, though. The seat’s armrest can also be lifted up if desired.

Food and Drinks
The flight attendant handed out the warm towel before meal services. Then they served the appetizer of Pan-fried ahi tuna with a box of cheese. I also ordered a glass of red wine to go with the appetizer.

After the appetizers, the flight attendant put the table’s white cloth and served the Lobster salad starter. Then followed by the main dish. I chose the Duck Confit, which tasted excellent!

After the main course, they brought out three types of cheese and then a choice of fruits or three kinds of mini desserts, along with coffee or tea as part of the dessert.

Before landing, Air France also served breakfast, and I chose the Basque Omelet.
You can also find buffet-style snacks at the galley, such as fruits, biscuits, almonds, cashews, and self-serving beverages.

Air France Business Class seats on the Boeing 777 can be controlled and turned into a lie-flat position. A pillow and a blanket are provided, but while I appreciate the full lie-flat position, I found the pad is not quite comfortable for my liking.

The service on this Air France Business Class AF 65 flight was nice and professional but a bit slower than expected. It’s understandable when they had to serve so many business class passengers. I pressed the flight attendant button for assistance 4 times, and no one came.
Upon boarding, on the seat, you’ll find a cloth hanger, a pillow, and a blanket.
There is also an amenity kit bag inside the compartment where you find the noise-canceling headphone. The amenity bag has a mini lotion, lip balm, a toothbrush, toothpaste, an eye mask, socks, and a pen.

Wi-Fi & Free Text Messages
Free text messages for the duration of the flight, but Wi-Fi is not free for Business Class passengers. The free text messages also did not work well at the time.
Tip: you not only have to activate the free texting pass but also have to log in either with your Flying Blue account or your ticket number on your boarding pass to activate the pass successfully.

How to Book Air France Business Class With Miles & Points?
My final destination for this European trip was Brussels, Belgium. I redeemed 70,000 Air France Flying Blue points for a one-way Business Class from LAX to CDG, connecting to the First Class train ride from CDG to Brussels train station in Belgium. The taxes and fees with Air France redemption are slightly high and expected. I paid 206.1 euros in taxes and fees for the journey, much cheaper than purchasing the airfare with cash for a lie-flat Business Class between the US and Europe.
