Sarah, a reader, sent me a question. She got approved for the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card and wondered how she could gift Hyatt Discoverist elite status to her spouse and best friend.
Gifting Hyatt Discoverist status is one of the benefits available on the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. Here’s how this benefit works.
What are Hyatt Discoverist Benefits?
Hyatt Discoverist elite status requires ten (10) elite qualifying nights or earn 25,000 World of Hyatt points per year. However, you can skip the requirements when approved for the Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card or Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. Alternatively, you can skip the requirements if you receive the Hyatt Discoverist status gifted by a cardholder of the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card.
Hyatt Discoverist status offers the following benefits:
- Earn five (5) base points per eligible $1 spent + a 10% bonus on eligible purchases at worldwide Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.
- Waived resort fees on Free Night Awards.
- Receive Premium Internet.
- Receive Bottled Water during stays.
- Complimentary room upgrade to Preferred room within the room type booked.
- Elite check-in.
- Hyatt Discoverist late checkout up to 2:00 PM.
- Earn American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles for Hyatt stays.

How does gifting the Discoverist with the Hyatt Business Card work?
Per the terms on the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card:
You, as the authorizing officer, will receive 5 Discoverist Upgrade Awards in your World of Hyatt account after your World of Hyatt Business Card account opening with which you will be able to gift Discoverist Status in the World of Hyatt program to 5 employees. Chase is not responsible for offer fulfillment or the provision of or failure to provide the stated benefits and services.
In summary:
- After opening your Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, you will receive five (5) Discoverist Upgrade Awards.
- You can gift each Discoverist Upgrade Award to a World of Hyatt member, up to five (5) World of Hyatt members.
- However, you must contact Hyatt to process gifting requests (more below).
- You do not contact Chase to process gifting requests. Chase cannot help you with that.
Where to Check Five (5) Discoverist Upgrade Awards?
While the card’s term states that the Five (5) Discoverist Upgrade Awards are in your World of Hyatt account after opening the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, unfortunately, that is not the case. It is impossible to see and check those five (5) Discoverist Upgrade Awards in your World of Hyatt account. Therefore, you must call Hyatt directly to check those awards for you.
Does the Discoverist Recipient have to be a real employee?
The card’s terms call out employees because it is a business credit card. However, you can gift Hyatt Discoverist status to anyone if you know their World of Hyatt account information, such as their account number, name, and email address.
Does the Discoverist Recipient have to be the card’s authorized user?
No. You do not need to add the Discoverist recipient as an authorized user on your Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card. You can gift the Hyatt Discoverist status to anyone. See above.
How many Discovierst statuses can you gift?
Five (5).
How long does Hyatt Discoverist status last?
Once you gift Hyatt Discoverist to a World of Hyatt member, the Hyatt system instantly upgrades their elite status. The status is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which the recipient receives the gift, plus the next 14 months.
For example, suppose you receive the Hyatt Discoverist status gift in January 2025. In that case, your Discoverist status will remain in effect for the remainder of 2025 until February 2027.
Does a Hyatt Business cardholder need to gift you the Discoverist status every year?
Using the example mentioned above:
Suppose you receive the Hyatt Discoverist status gift in January 2025. In that case, your Discoverist status will remain in effect for the remainder of 2025 until February 2027.
Therefore, you will lose the Discoverist status at the end of February 2027. When that happens, the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card member needs to make another request to gift the Discoverist status to you.
Do you lose Discoverist Status if the Hyatt Business Card is closed?
No. Once you receive the Hyatt Discoverist status, the status is valid until the next qualification period (see above), whether or not the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card member still has the card.
However, if the credit card is no longer active or closed, the cardholder can no longer gift the Discoverist status next time when the recipient’s Discoverist status drops.
How to Gift Discoverist with World of Hyatt Business Credit Card?
To gift Hyatt Discoverist status as a cardmember of the Chase World of Hyatt Business Credit Card, you must call Hyatt guest services directly at 1-800-323-7249 or Hyatt’s My Concierge if you are a Hyatt Globalist elite status member. Also, the rep told me that contacting Hyatt via chat or Twitter is impossible to make such a request.
Once a Hyatt representative comes on the line, you tell them you are a Hyatt business credit cardholder and would like to gift Discoverist status to a World of Hyatt member. The rep will go through the process with you, first looking up your information and verifying that the Discoverist Upgrade Awards are available in your World of Hyatt account.
Here’s my personal experience: I called in, and the rep located my Five (5) Discoverist Upgrade Awards in my World of Hyatt account. The rep then used one award to upgrade my designated World of Hyatt member to Discoverist status. The rep needed the following information from me:
- My World of Hyatt account membership information.
- The Discoverist recipient’s World of Hyatt account number, name, and email address.
- The Discoverist recipient’s Hyatt member received the status upgrade instantly.

Does the user keep Discoverist as long as the card is active or do they need to renew it as usual per the WoH program terms?
Hi Stephen, I do not have a data point for this yet. I gifted the Discoverist in 2022, and it's good through February 29, 2024, for the recipient.
