Certain Capital One credit cards can earn flexible reward miles so that you can use those miles to redeem flights, hotels, and rental cars via the Capital One Travel portal.
However, you can also transfer those miles to loyalty programs that partner with Capital One. Your Capital One miles can be worth much more when redeeming them this way. The way it works is you can transfer your Capital One miles to an airline for their frequent flyer miles and then use those miles to redeem for a flight when the airfare is high.

How To Transfer Capital One Miles To Airline and Hotel Partners?
It is essential to know that transferring Capital One to partners is a one-way street – meaning you cannot transfer points back to Capital One once the transfer is complete.
It is possible to transfer Capital One miles to partners online or on the phone. For online:
- Sign in to your Capital One credit card account.
- Click on the View Account button for the eligible credit card.
- Click on the Redeem button under the total miles.
- Scroll down until you see the Convert Rewards link, and click on it.
- Click on Transfer Miles next to a loyalty program you want to transfer to.
- If this is your first time moving Capital One miles to a specific loyalty program, Capital One will ask you for your loyalty program information before letting you transfer.
- Follow the web interface to indicate how many Capital One miles you want to transfer.
- After that, follow the prompts to finalize the transfer.
Should You Transfer Capital One Miles To Airline and Hotel Partners?
It is crucial to remember that you cannot transfer loyalty program points back to Capital One once the transfer is complete. The rule of thumb is that you transfer points only if you know you will use those airline miles or hotel points. Use these as a guideline to help you make a decision:
- Search and confirm the award availability of the flight that you want.
- Understand how that mileage program works, such as how to book, mileage expiration policy, and award cancellation/change procedure if you have to cancel.
- If you cancel, will you use those miles/points later on?
Generally speaking, the speculative transfer can negatively impact you if you are stuck with a particular airline’s frequent flyer miles and cannot use those miles. Airlines and hotels can also devalue their award charts. Moreover, most programs have policies so that those unused points can expire.
Furthermore, from time to time, Capital One offers transfer bonuses that can be lucrative for me personally to perform the transfer speculatively. However, the rule of thumb still applies here: I only transfer if I know I will use those miles. For example, Aeromexico Club Premier is one of the worst mileage programs. Their award booking site is very limited with search functionality and almost impossible to use. Their award booking call center is also a nightmare to deal with. Ultimately, I don’t care when Capital One offers any transfer bonus to Aeromexico Club Premier.
I have many favorite Capital One transfer airline partners: Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways Avios, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, JetBlue TrueBlue, Qantas Frequent Flyer, and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.
As far as hotel partners go, I rarely transfer points to participating hotel partners unless I need to top off my hotel’s rewards account for a memorable award night stay somewhere in the world.
- It is nice to see that Capital One Miles can move to the Accor hotels program Accor Live Limitless (ALL). Accor is one of the hotel rewards programs that makes it very difficult to accrue points, which is a shame because their hotels are pretty good.
- Transferring Capital One miles to Wyndham Rewards is also a great addition, especially now that Wyndham partners with Vacasa, which offers vacation rental properties ranging from a studio condo to a beach cottage, a ski cabin, or an entire house rental.
- Choice Hotels Privileges is another recent great addition. Some great ways to redeem Choice Privileges points include using them for luxury Preferred Hotels & Resorts.
