A New Radisson Blu Resort In Maldives And Standard Points Room Type is Overwater Villa With Private Pool & Breakfast

It can be really expensive to stay in one of the luxury resorts that offers overwater bungalow room types. But thank to travel rewards points, there are quite a few of them that can be booked using hotel's rewards points. Now Radisson also has joined other big hotel chains and opened the first Radisson Blu in the Republic of Maldives.

This opens another exciting opportunity for the points community to be able to use Radisson Rewards points to redeem for a free night stay in the Maldives. Your Radisson points will go a long way staying at this Radisson Blu Resort in Maldives, here's why.

Radisson Blu Has Arrived in Maldives

Located in the southern area of the Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Radisson Blu Resort Maldives now starts accepting reservations for July 2, 2020 and beyond. The new resort is set amidst beautiful coral reefs and will feature premium 128 villas with stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Similar to other resorts in Maldives, Radisson resort is only accessible within a 30-minute seaplane ride followed by a 15-minute speedboat transfer to the resort.

Standard Award Room Type With Breakfast

Radisson Blu Resort Maldives is a category 7 property requires 70,000 Radisson points per night. The standard points room type is an Overwater Villa with Private Pool, which is amazing considering you can just use points for an award stay and book right into an Overvilla Villa room type without any cash upgrades. Here's a description of the room:
Our overwater villa helps you embrace island life with stunning views, a private outdoor deck, and easy access to the pristine ocean waters. Sunbathe in a lounge chair next to the infinity pool as you wait for room service to deliver a refreshing cocktail, or enjoy a break from the sun while tuning in to your favorite show on the IPTV. Additional standard amenities include an overwater hammock, a daybed, a sofa, a vanity kit, twin vanity counters, and IDD phones.

But that's not all. Your Radisson points go a long way because not only you can book right into an Overwater room type, you also receive complimentary breakfast. This is huge considering how expensive food can be there.

Complimentary Room Upgrade

If you have elite status with Radisson, you may able to score a room upgrade upon availability at check-in. All Silver, Gold and Platinum elite members have room upgrade benefits. These are the room types available at Radisson Blu Resort Maldives:
  • Overwater Villa with Private Pool
  • Beach Villa with Private Pool
  • Two Bedroom Family Beach Villa with Private Pool
  • Two Bedroom Beach Suite Villa with Private Pool
  • Three Bedroom Overwater Villa with Private Pool
  • Three Bedroom Family Beach Villa with Private Pool
So depending on which room type you prefer, you may contact the property or leave a note in your reservation to request a complimentary upgrade. Personally, as long as I can stay in an over the water room type on points without using cash to upgrade, I am satisfied.

The quick shortcut to obtain Radisson Gold Elite status is through the U.S. Bank Radisson Rewards Premier Visa Signature Card. Currently, there's a "hidden" 120k welcome bonus and you also receive 40,000 renewal points each year when you renew your card by paying for the card's annual fee $75.

Conclusion

It is nice to see that Radisson now has a resort property in Maldives under the Radisson Blu brand. The fact that we can use Radisson points to book into an Overwater Villa with Private Pool without cash upgrade is an incredible value added to the Radisson Rewards program. Moreover, the award rate also comes with a complimentary daily breakfast that can save hundreds of dollars when staying there.
