Review: Hilton Diamond Upgrade and Benefits at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort in Maldives

Maldives is an exotic destination that takes pride in its islands with overwater bungalow resorts. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is one of the luxury resorts there that has stunning beach villas, overwater villas and the world famous under sea restaurant. So this property is one of the Hilton's top tier properties that the cash rate per night can be super expensive in thousand dollars range. This Conrad property makes a great use of the Hilton Free Weekend Night Reward.

American Express Hilton Aspire Card also gives card members automatic Hilton Honors Diamond elite status, so that benefit will add more value to the stay at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.

    Overwater Villa Upgrade

If you are looking to stay at one of their stunning Overwater Villas, it's important to know that the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island does not offer complimentary upgrade for Hilton Honors Diamond members. However, the standard award room there starts at 95,000 Hilton points per night. The standard room choices are either the beach villa or the overwater villa room type. Therefore, you can simply use 95,000 Hilton points or your Hilton Free Weekend Night Reward to book right into the overwater villa without paying cash to upgrade. With the high demand of overwater villa as standard award room, plan in advance.

Keep in mind also when you are a Hilton Honors member, you receive the 5th night free when you  redeem points for an award stay of at least 5 nights. So for a 5-nights stay at the Conrad Maldives on points, you will need 380,000 Hilton points or 76,000 Hilton points per night. Hilton also generously does not charge resort or destination fees on award stays.

If you'd like to upgrade to any other room type, you may need to pay to upgrade by contacting the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island at mlehi.maldives@conradhotels.com to inquire your options.

    Complimentary Breakfast

As Hilton Honors Diamond members, you are entitled to complimentary breakfast at both Atoll Market or Vilu Restaurant up to two guests per room. It is worth noting that, Hilton Honors Gold members do also receive free breakfast at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort.

Food in Maldives is very very expensive, so the benefit of being Hilton Honors Diamond elite status is pretty awesome. The Vilu Restaurant serves a fairly large selections of made to order breakfast menu such as eggs benedict and various omelets. There's also a small buffet area that is also included as part of the complimentary breakfast from salad, cheese, pastries to fruits, etc. Whereas the Atoll Market which is also a restaurant that is located close to the main swimming pool, the Atoll serves all you can eat breakfast buffet style. The breakfast buffet at Atoll usually costs around $100 per person, but with your Diamond status, you can enjoy the breakfast buffet for free up to two guests per room. The buffet has so many selections of cold and hot items and all kinds of food. You won't be hungry.

Therefore, as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, you have two choices of restaurants to enjoy the complimentary breakfast. If you prefer made to order type of breakfast, then go to Vilu Restaurant. If you prefer buffet style breakfast, then go to the Atoll Market. You can't go wrong with either restaurant because they both have amazing selections of food. By having Hilton's elite status can save you several hundreds of dollars each morning while staying at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.

    Afternoon Tea

UPDATE: Unfortunately, it appears that the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort chose to eliminate this Afternoon Tea benefit for Hilton Gold and Diamond members.

Diamond members also receives complimentary access to the Afternoon Tea that consists of tea, cookies, cakes and pastries. The event starts from 3:30 to 4:30PM every day at the Mandhoo Spa restaurant. This is yet another great benefit for being Hilton's elite members.

    Complimentary Happy Hour

Hilton Honors Diamond members can also attend the Happy Hour at Vilu Bar free of charge. Every guest can attend but not free. The Happy Hour event offers free drinks and mocktails and juice served with canapes which we took advantage of as our "dinner" so that we did not have to spends arms and legs for dinner at the resort.

Plan the complimentary breakfast time and this happy hour accordingly if you are on budget. We took advantage of the complimentary breakfast as our "brunch" and this Happy Hour event as our early dinner to save some money on food.

    Other Diamond Benefits:

    • 20% off lunch bill at Mandhoo and Ufaa restaurants. This benefit actually applies to all Hilton Honors members.
    • One bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival.
    • 100% elite tier bonus points.
    • Premium Free Wi-Fi in guest room and lobby
    • Late check-out subject to availability.

    Bottom Line

It is very nice to be able to use Hilton Honors points or the Hilton Free Weekend Night Reward to book right into the overwater villa as a standard award room type without paying to upgrade. Moreover, having Hilton Honors Diamond elite status creates significant benefits while staying at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort such as complimentary breakfast for two guests per room at either on-site made to order restaurant or buffet style restaurant which can save you several hundreds of dollars each morning, complimentary Happy Hour and one bottle of sparking wine upon arrival to name a few. These benefits are incredible when Maldives is such a very expensive resort destination in the world.

Living the points life, I did not go out my way to spend several hundreds of dollars to stay at Hilton each year in order to accrue nights to earn their top tier Hilton Honors Diamond status, instead I applied for the American Express Hilton Aspire Card that gives me automatic complimentary Diamond status and 1 weekend free night certificate every year that can be used towards the standard award room at worldwide Hilton resorts such as this Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort.
