Truth be told, when it comes to the Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status doesn’t mean much. We were, however, fortunate to score two free nights from the Ritz-Carlton credit card‘s sign up bonus and used them at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Resort in Maui. Please note that the credit card is no longer available for new applications.

Room Upgrade

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Resort in Maui can be had for 60,000 Marriott points per night. This books into their Deluxe Guest room with the Resort View only. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, our room was complimentary upgraded. We were provided with a couple room options:

  1. Garden View Suite, 1 Bedroom Suite, 1 King, Sofa bed, Bathrooms: 2, Garden view
  2. Deluxe Ocean View, Guest room, 1 King or 2 Queen, Partial ocean view
Our first intuition was to take the spacious suite room option #1; however, at the time of check-in the room was not available for early check-in and the suite has only the garden view. So we decided to go with option #2 for the Deluxe Guest room with the partial ocean view. It was the right choice as the room was very beautiful. It does not only have partial ocean view, it also has the entire resort’s pool view from the terrace/balcony.

No Breakfast

Ritz-Carlton does not have breakfast benefit for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members.

Late Checkout

The 4 P.M. late checkout is available but based upon availability. We had to leave the property for the Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. So we did not ask for the late checkout.

Welcome Points Gift

1,000 Marriott points.

Coupons and 10% Discount at Retail Facilities

There are several coupons provided with the Platinum elite’s welcome envelope for retail stores and restaurants at the property. The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua has onsite restaurants and bars which can be convenient to guests that are staying at the property but they are not cheap. We specially enjoy the pool’s service for food and drinks. Those coupons do provide some savings at the onsite restaurants and bars that we took advantage of. If you are looking for more affordable places to eat, there’s only one plaza area that is within walking distance of the resort but it is not part of the Ritz-Carlton by any means.
In addition, the Platinum elite members can also receive 10% discount at retail facilities on Ritz-Carlton logo merchandise.
