Upgrading your phone is an important decision, and selecting the right option is essential. In this discussion, we will compare T-Mobile’s two popular programs: the JUMP! Program and the Yearly Upgrade Plan. Each program has its own unique benefits, so let’s explore what they offer and highlight their differences.

T-Mobile Yearly Upgrade

T-Mobile’s Yearly Upgrade program is available only with the most premium and expensive Experience Beyond. This option allows you to take advantage of current phone promotions, such as trade-in, when you upgrade, making it an excellent way to stay updated with the latest technology.

To qualify for the Yearly Upgrade:

  • You must be on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) for at least six months.
  • You have paid off 50% of your device’s value.
  • Your plan is the Experience Beyond.

T-Mobile JUMP!

In contrast, T-Mobile’s JUMP! The program is provided by T-Mobile Protection 360 and is accessible with a wider range of plans, but it may or may not have promotional deals at the time of Upgrade. Instead, it focuses on providing flexibility based on your device payments.

To qualify for JUMP!

  • You must be on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP).
  • You have paid off 50% of your device’s value.
  • T-Mobile Protection 360 is required and costs $18 per month.

FAQs

Can I still JUMP upgrade if I do not have the protection 360?

If you have phone insurance through Apple or a credit card benefit, you may not need the Protection 360 plan from T-Mobile. However, you can still take advantage of the JUMP! To do that, contact T-Mobile and ask an agent to add Protection 360 to your plan for $18 per month. Once the 360 insurance is added to your account, you will qualify for the JUMP upgrade within three business days, provided that you also meet other requirements.

How do I know if the JUMP upgrade is available in my T-Mobile account?

Once you meet all the requirements for JUMP! and you are ready to upgrade, you can proceed:

  • Contact T-Mobile via call or chat, and have them check it for you.
  • Do it yourself via the T-Life app:
    • Launch the T-Life app
    • Tap on Shop
    • Tap on “Looking to upgrade?”
    • You will see “JUMP! Upgrade available” if your device is eligible. See the image below.

Does the T-Mobile Yearly Upgrade program require a specific phone plan?

Yes. It is T-Mobile’s most expensive and premium phone plan: the Experience Beyond plan. Check the price here.

Are there ways to save money on the Experience Beyond plan?

Yes – see below:

I’m the financial responsible account holder, and I am not over 55 years old, but one of my lines is. Can I take advantage of the 55+ savings?

Yes. If one of your lines is 55 years old or older, you can switch that person to be the responsible account and take advantage of 55+ savings on T-Mobile’s phone plans.

However, please note that when you change the responsible account, your Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) will also be reset. Additionally, the Yearly Upgrade requires that you be on an EIP for at least six months.

The same eligibility criteria apply for Military personnel, Veterans, and First Responders regarding savings.
