I had to be in the Los Angeles area the day before my flight from LAX to Europe with Air France, so I redeemed a Hyatt Free Night Award at the Tommie Hollywood part of JDV by Hyatt.

The Globalist benefits at Tommie Hollywood are so-so such as room upgrades and breakfast. The gist is that I won’t return to Tommie because the rooms are small, and the noise is the main problem. See the below review in detail:

    Location

Tommie Hollywood is within walking distance of the Hollywood attractions such as the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre, etc. The location also offers a view of the Hollywood sign from its rooftop bar and rooms. Tommie Hollywood fits the bill if you want to be centrally located in the Hollywood area, but it still requires around 10 minutes to walk.
The hotel area is a bit sketchy because there are homeless people around the area, but as long as you keep things to yourself, you should be okay. I would not be too concerned about it because Los Angeles is a big city.

    Noise

I’m making this a section because I did not have a good night’s sleep while staying at Tommie Hollywood. While the bed and rooms are good, the noise is an issue, especially if you stay over the weekend.
I was staying on a Friday night and was assigned a room on the 5th floor as an upgrade for my Globalist status. There are 8 floors and a rooftop, but it’s a catch-22. The higher your floor is, the more you hear music from the rooftop bar at night, and the lower your floor is, the more you’ll hear the street noise and people that party in the area until past 2am. This hotel is not ideal if you are a light sleeper, especially over the weekend. Therefore I will not return to Tommie Hollywood because of this main simple reason.
I now understand why Tommie Hollywood put us on the 5th floor. After speaking to them about the noise issues, the staff let me know that they don’t receive noise complaints from guests staying on the 5th floor, and that’s why they hardly put any guests that prefer higher floors above the 5th floor.

    Room Upgrades

I used the Hyatt Free Night Award to book the Atrium View King standard room. On the day before check-in, the room was upgraded to the Hollywood Hills View King Room for being a Globalist member. The Standard Suite and other higher-category rooms were available, but the property chose not to upgrade further. I did not really try to push it because it was just a one-night stay.

    Room Review

Our Hollywood Hills View room number is 525. The room is not large, but adequate for two people and a one-night stay.
The king bed is nice and comfortable. There’s a TV hung on the wall, but the room has no closet.

The room comes with large high windows. While our room is called Hollywood Hills View, it’s impossible to see the Hollywood sign because it is on the 5th floor, too low to see. My room’s view was disappointing because it only offered the parking lot, and I had to zoom in to see the so-called Hollywood Hills view. Therefore, if you want the Hollywood sign’s view, tell them that or ask for a higher floor that offers the desired view, but you may be warned about the noise from the rooftop bar. See the noise section above in this article.

    Disappointing Views
The room is boutique-looking, nice, and practical, but it’s smaller than expected for two people. It may be too small for multiple people or if you stay multiple nights.

    Club Lounge

There’s no club lounge for the JDV Hyatt brand.

    Complimentary Drinks Ticket Voucher

Tommie Hollywood offers all guests a complimentary drinks voucher on arrival. You do not need to be a Globalist to receive that because the ticket voucher is part of the Destination Fee (more below).
The voucher is good for one complimentary drink such as beer, house wines, and non-alcoholic beverages for you and one additional guest staying in the same room. You can use the voucher at any onsite restaurants and bars at the property, including the rooftop bar.

    Food & Beverage Credits

There are no food and beverage credits, just the complimentary drinks voucher for all guests and the breakfast credits for Globalist members.

    Globalist Breakfast

Globalist breakfast at Tommie Hollywood is not that exciting. You and one guest can get a pastry or a hot item per person at the onsite Tommie Cafe, which is not a dine-in restaurant.
Coffee and teas are complimentary to all guests, regardless elite or not, from 7am to 11pm.

The breakfast item price at the Tommie Cafe is not cheap, so enjoy it as part of your Globalist benefit. There’s no tip line, and the system handles all breakfast expenses when you do a room charge at the counter.

    Dining

The rooftop bar called Desert 5 Spot is popular at Tommie Hollywood. It has a view of the Hollywood sign, so go early as the place could get busy. You press the letter R in the elevator to get to the rooftop bar. The ones with two letters RR or a number with a letter R are for housekeeping only.

There’s a bar and a Tacos station at the rooftop bar. You pay and get the ticket from the bartender first to order any tacos.

There’s another restaurant downstairs, Ka’teen, but we didn’t check it out. The Tommie Cafe is also downstairs, where you have the Globalist breakfast.
