Whether you are after cash back or Amex Membership Rewards (MR) points, Rakuten is currently offering 90% back on LifeLock. I have done this deal in the past when the earning rate was 80% (twice the usual offer which is 40%). The deal was legit and I did receive correct Amex MR points as promised. 

Rakuten is a shopping portal that allows you to earn either cash or Amex MR points back on each purchases that route through their portal site. With LifeLock as an example, if you go directly to LifeLock website, you won't get any bonus, but if you go to LifeLock website via Rakuten, you will receive bonus cash back or points depending on how your Rakuten account is set up.

LifeLock Review - What is LifeLock?

LifeLock is a paid subscription service that constantly monitors your credit files, scans your social security number and personal identity information for any signs of identity theft and dark web activity. It alerts you right away for any suspicious activities such as your credit is being pulled by a credit bureau, a bank account (not just credit cards and loans) is open under your name, a business may have data breach and your information that could be exposed, etc. LifeLock notifies you all identity potential problems through phone calls, app notification, emails and recommend ways to help you recover. To get all these features, you will have to sign up for their most expensive plan.

LifeLock vs. Free Credit Monitoring Services

There are many free credit services nowadays to help monitoring your credit files without affecting your credit score such as Free Credit Karma, Free Credit Sesame and even the credit bureau Experian. I receive alerts every time when my sensitive information was used to apply for a credit card or a loan. 

It's worth noting that these free credit monitoring services are not as comprehensive as LifeLock Ultimate Plus plan. With that being said, if you want a service that works for you 24/7 for all identity theft related problems, LifeLock offers that type of service with a subscription fee. However, if you are satisfied with just credits monitoring, then those free credit monitoring services should be sufficient. 

I am not affiliated with LifeLock and I am only using those free credit monitoring services to keep track of my credit information such as credit score, credit report and credit accounts. I actively stay on top of things when it comes to my credit information. 

Rakuten: Earn 90% Cash Back or 90x Amex MR Points Per $1 Spent on LifeLock

Rakuten is currently offering 90% cash back or 90x Amex MR points per $1 spent on LifeLock. Moreover, there's also an offer of up to 25% off the plan's price for the first year.

Maximizing Rakuten LifeLock 90x Offer

The best return in this deal is to buy one year LifeLock Ultimate Plus plan. The Ultimate Plus plan costs $26.99/month. With up to 25% discount and taxes, it comes to a total of $296.90 for one full year. Factoring in 90% back deal, you will either receive $267.21 cash back or 26,721 MR points credited into your Amex MR points account. But that's not all, if you are new to Rakuen, there's a sign-up bonus too. 

Depending on whether you are after cash back or Amex points, here's how I would do this deal for Cash Back:

• Go to Rakuten portal site. 
• Sign in with your account. If you do not have an account, you can join for free. Plus after you join and spend , you will get additional bonus from Rakuten. 
• Sign into Rakuten and search for LifeLock. You should see 90% cash back. 
• Click Shop Now.
• Purchase LifeLock Ultimate Plus plan. Confirm also there's a 25% discount on the plan. 
• Follow the screens to complete your purchase. Make sure to use your favorite cash back credit card to earn extra cash bonus on credit card's spend. 

Total Cash Earned:

• $10 bonus for new Rakuten sign-up. 
• $267.21 cash back on LifeLock plan's purchase through Rakuten.
• $2.97 cash back on credit card's spend (1% cash back).
• Total: $280.18 - So you are basically getting 1 year LifeLock Ultimate Plus plan for free. 

Here's how I would do this deal for Amex MR Points:

• Go to Rakuten portal site. 
• Sign in with your account. If you do not have an account, you can join for free. Plus after you join and spend $25, you will get additional 3,000 bonus Amex MR points from Rakuten. 
• Sign into Rakuten and search for LifeLock. You should see 90% cash back. 
• Click on the deal and follow the page to purchase LifeLock Ultimate Plus Plan. Confirm also there's a 25% discount on the plan. 
• Follow the screens to complete your purchase. Make sure to use an Amex MR points card to earn extra bonus points on credit card's spend. 

Total Amex MR Points Earned:

• 3,000 MR points for new Rakuten sign-up.
• 26,721 MR points on LifeLock plan's purchase through Rakuten.
• 297 MR Points on credit card's spend (1 point $1 spent).
• Total: 30,018 Amex MR Points.

How to Cancel LifeLock Membership?

LifeLock does offer 60-days money back policy that is applicable to the Annual LifeLock Membership. 

Annual LifeLock Memberships (pre-paid one-year term or more):  Under our 60-day Money Back Guarantee, the purchase of a LifeLock annual membership is eligible for a refund, if your request is made within 60-days of the date of purchase.

However, please note that if you cancel LifeLock membership during the 60-days period, you will not earn Rakuten cash back or receive Amex bonus points due to the cancellation. So if you are only signing up for LifeLock because of the Rakuten's deal, then do not cancel membership within 60-days of the purchase date. 

LifeLock is a subscription service and any renewal is automatic. So if you do not want to continue getting charged after one year, create a reminder to remind yourself to cancel prior to the renewal date. When my LifeLock one year due was coming up, LifeLock also sent me a reminder email about the auto renewal. To be safe, you should also remind yourself. 

The process to cancel LifeLock membership renewal is very simple and can be done online or through their app:

• Sign into your LifeLock account.
• Click on Membership & Billing
• Click on Cancel Membership Renewal
• Provide your cancellation reason and continue to finalize cancellation.
