7 Best Ways to Redeem Virgin Australia Velocity Points For Premium Class (Updated 2018)

Virgin Australia's award chart is distance-based. The distance you fly is used to determine for miles required for redemption based on "zones." Virgin Australia's points currency is called Velocity Points and here are their best uses:

1. Fly Virgin Australia Business Class From Los Angeles to Australia for 95,500 Velocity Points Each Way
Virgin Australia's 777 fleet has the new Business Class Suite, "The Business", is one of the best business class products. Award redemptions for direct flight from US-Australia is typically hard to come by. If you are able to score one for 95,500 Velocity points one-way from Los Angeles to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, consider yourself lucky! And don't forget to enjoy the onboard bar.

2. Fly Virgin Australia Business Class From Australia to Hong Kong for 59,500 Velocity Points Each Way
The routes for Australia cities such as Sydney or Melbourne to Hong Kong features the new Business Class Suite "The Business" can be had for only 59,500 Velocity points one-way. The distance from Australia to Asia will give you a good amount of enjoyable time to fly in style in new Virgin Australia's business class cabin and enjoy the onboard bar.

3. Fly Alitalia Business Class From New York JFK to Rome for 59,500 Velocity Points Each Way
The Italian Airline, Alitalia partners with Virgin Australia. Therefore you can use Velocity points to redeem for Alitalia Business Class from New York JFK to Rome for only 59,500 Velocity points one-way.

4. Fly Singapore Airlines A380 First Class Suite From Australia to Singapore for 95,000 Velocity Points Each Way
Singapore Airlines First Class Suite on the Airbus 380 is a bucket list for any aviator enthusiasts. Singapore Airlines has also revamped their First Class Suites on the A380 between Sydney and Singapore, and they look stunning. If you want to experience that suite, you can redeem 95,000 Velocity points one-way to fly Singapore Airlines.

5. Fly Hawaiian Business Class From Honolulu to Brisbane for 65,000 Velocity Points Each Way
Hawaiian Airlines partners with Virgin Australia, just like Alitalia and Singapore Airlines. Hawaiian Airlines Business Class features lie-flat bed seats and the design of each seat looks incredible. One-way direct flight from Brisbane to Honolulu or vice versa in Business Class costs only 65,000 Velocity points. Remember Virgin Australia's award chart is distance-based, so if you prefer to fly from Honolulu to Sydney instead, it'll cost you 78,000 Velocity points.

6. Fly Virgin Atlantic Upper Class (Business Class) From New York or Boston to London for 49,500 Velocity Points Each Way
Honestly, Virgin Atlantic Upper Class is not my favorite. Although the seats are lie-flat, they are too tight and close to each other and uncomfortable for a good sleep, not to mention lack of privacy. Virgin Atlantic's hub is in London and they refer their Business Class as Upper Class. What I love about Virgin Atlantic Upper Class is actually their lounge in London. You can book Virgin Atlantic Upper Class award using Virgin Australia's Velocity points for only 49,500 miles one-way from New York JFK or Boston to London.

7. Fly Short-Haul Virgin Australia Economy Class Within Australia Starting From 7,800 Velocity Points Each Way
Flying Business Class on a short-haul flight within Australia may not be worthwhile. So if you don't want to pay for the Virgin Australia flight with money out of pocket, for example Sydney to Melbourne, you can redeem only 7,800 Velocity points each way for that short-haul flight.
