Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is a Hyatt hotel resort located in the heart of bustling Waikiki Beach. It’s also one of the Hyatt hotels that’s oceanfront in Honolulu, Hawaii. While the hotel is not a true beachfront property, it’s one of the most well-known Waikiki resorts, especially if you are a World of Hyatt Globalist elite member. Staying at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa, you can enjoy room upgrades, free parking on award stays, and club lounge access.
Location
As its name suggests, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is located in the heart of Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. The resort is among other tall buildings in the area, and it has two high-rises that you cannot miss.
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is not a beachfront property. However, it’s a true oceanfront property. You’ll see that a street lies between the famous and busy Waikiki beach and the property.
Room Upgrades
I was staying at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa during the weekend, and the hotel was fully booked. Due to availability, I could not even get a preferred late checkout. Therefore, as a Globalist, I didn’t receive the complimentary Standard Suite Upgrade. My advice is if you’d like a suite, you should use the Hyatt Suite Night Award to redeem as soon as possible rather than waiting to see if you are lucky enough to score a free suite upgrade.
However, as a consolation, I received an upgrade to the Oceanfront King Room instead, which is a good upgrade from the standard award City View Room that I booked using World of Hyatt points.
Oceanfront Room Review
It’s worth noting that Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has two towers: Diamond Head Tower and Eva Tower.
The Oceanfront room that I was assigned to is on the 9th floor, number 961, in the Diamond Head Tower. There are a few higher floors above the 9th floor, which I presume offer better views and are, therefore, insulated better from the busy Waikiki road noise.
The Oceanfront King Room is a spacious room with a large king-size bed and quite a few pillows.
There’s also a long working desk and a comfortable lounge chair inside the room.
The bathroom, on the other hand, was a letdown because of how old it looked.
Furthermore, the balcony area has a small table and two chairs and offers a beautiful ocean view. The ocean view is definitely my favorite part of the room.
Regency Club Lounge
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has a good Regency Club Lounge that’s fully open daily, and Globalists have complimentary access to the club.
The Regency Club Lounge is on the 3rd floor, but its location is odd: You have to go through the buffet restaurant to get to the lounge entrance.
The Regency Club has the following hours and offers the following services daily:
- Breakfast: 6 AM – 10 AM
- Refreshments and snacks: 10 AM – 5 PM
- Hors d’oeuvres, wines and beers: 5 PM – 7 PM
- Desserts: 7 PM – 9 PM
I also have written up a full review of the Regency Club in the following post that you can read up and see the club photos:
Welcome Amenity
None
Food & Beverage Credits
None
Complimentary Breakfast
The Regency Club offers a complimentary breakfast every morning. A lounge attendant checks your room number for club access before letting you in and enjoying breakfast.
Breakfast inside the Regency Club is plenty and served buffet style. Therefore, you can enjoy both cold and hot breakfast items, including delicious pastries and unlimited non-alcoholic beverages.
Dining
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has a few onsite restaurants. Check out the following link:
Resort Fee
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has a $49 resort fee. However, the fee is completely waived if you stay on points or redeem a Hyatt Free Night Award Certificate.
The resort fee offers the following services and amenities. See the following photo below:
Parking
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa offers both valet and self-park:
- Valet parking: $70 per day
- Self-parking: $55 per day
However, as a World of Hyatt Globalist, parking is free on award stays.
Pet Policy
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is a pet-friendly dog and offers the following pet-related amenities:
- Limit of up to two total pets
- A litter box for cats is required.
- For Dogs, the resort offers Beds, Bowls, Mats, and Treats.
Housekeeping
Yes, available.
Internet/Wi-Fi
Yes, Wi-Fi is free for all guests, as that’s one of the amenities included in the resort fee mentioned above.
Bottled Water
Hyatt elites can get free bottled water, but Hawaii is generally conscious about the environment. Therefore, each guest room has a souvenir Hyatt Regency Waikiki water bottle that can be used to refill with water at the water station. The souvenir bottle is also part of the resort free, so you can take it home after you finish your stay.
Early Check-in
I arrived around noon and was able to check in and get my room despite the regular check-in time being 3 pm.
Late Check-out
Late checkout is one of Hyatt’s elite benefits, and Globalists can get one up to 4 p.m. However, it’s important to understand that the benefit is highly subject to availability. In my case, I could only get a late checkout up to noon, which is only an hour away from the regular check-out time of 11 a.m.
Spa
Yes, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has a spa, but I didn’t use it.
Fitness Center
Yes, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa has a nice fitness center on the third floor, across from the pool.
In-Room Safe
Yes, available.
Robes & Slippers
Only slippers were available inside the closet, and they were also part of the resort fee.
Swimming Pool
The pool opens at 7:30 a.m. and is also located on the 3rd floor. It is an outdoor pool, but its size is not huge. Moreover, it was very busy when I was there, especially with children. Several color loungers surround the pool, and a restaurant with pool bar services is nearby.
There’s also a hot tub available in the pool area and nice, comfortable paid cabanas. The cabana price varies depending on whether you rent it on a weekday or a weekend. If I remember right, a weekday cabana costs around $130, and a weekend cabana jumps up to $300 for a 24-hour rental.
It’s also very interesting that the pool towels have chips. Therefore, at the self-service machine, you tap your card to check out the towels, but you must return them, as they have chips to track whether you return them or not. However, please don’t rely on technology 100% because I got charged $50 when I had already returned the towel and had to ask them to take it off after reviewing my hotel bill. So be sure to look at your charges carefully in the app or before you check out!
Beach & Beach Amenities
As I mentioned, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is not a beachfront property. To go to the beach, you must cross the busy Waikiki Beach road to the public beach. However, the resort fee offers beach amenities such as beach chairs, toys, boogie boards, etc., free of charge, and you can take them with you to the beach.
