United Polaris Lounge ORD is at Terminal 1 by Gate C18. However, some Star Alliance flights leave from Terminal 5. The Polaris Lounge is arguably one of the best Star Alliance lounges at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Therefore, if you have a long layover time, I strongly recommend you check out the Polaris Lounge at Terminal 1.
How do you get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 at Chicago O’Hare?
The bus transfer is the best way to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5. The transportation is airside, so you do not need to exit and clear the security again.
Here’s how you do it:
- After visiting the United Polaris Lounge in Terminal 1 by Gate C18 in Concourse C, walk towards Concourse B Gate B1. See picture #1.
- An airport staff there will check your passport and boarding pass at a podium.
- Once you are verified, you are given a bright green slip. Keep it with you at all times. See picture #2.
- When it’s time to board the bus, you follow the airport staff down to the bus. There’s no elevator or escalator, so keep that in mind.
How long does it take to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 at O’Hare?
At the United Polaris Lounge, I was told that the bus runs every 15 minutes and takes around a 15-minute ride from T1 to T5. However, because the bus goes on the airport runway, in case there’s a plane landing or taxing, the bus must stop, and that can add more time to the duration of the bus ride in addition to loading and unloading time. As a result, be sure to give yourself enough time.
Do you have to go through security when going from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 at O’Hare?
No. The bus transfer is the best way to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5. The transportation is airside, so you do not need to go through TSA security again when changing terminals at O’Hare airport.
