There are a few points upscale hotels and resorts in St. Julian’s, Malta, such as InterContinental Malta, Hyatt Regency Malta, Hilton Malta, and Malta Marriott Resort & Spa.
I was visiting Malta for five days, so I wanted to maximize the fifth night free on award stays benefit. Therefore, I chose to stay at Malta Marriott Resort & Spa, and it did not disappoint. Here’s why.
Location
I like Malta Marriott Resort & Spa‘s location because it’s in bustling St. Julian’s yet walkable to Silema town. All restaurants and public bus stops are also within walking distance of the property. Furthermore, there’s a promenade boardwalk across from the hotel, making it a lovely stroll in the evening. If you don’t mind a city beach, there’s also a small public beach with a lifeguard across from the hotel.
The hotel has two entrances. Whichever you choose should not matter. It can be the front or back entrances.
Room Upgrades
One week before my stay, I noticed that my room had been upgraded from a standard room to a deluxe pool view. Then, one day before my stay, my room was changed again to two queen beds with a sea view. I also attempted to utilize my Marriott Nightly Upgrade Awards for at least a Junior Suite upgrade, but that didn’t happen due to availability.
However, upon checking in, the front desk manager was helping a new in-training girl who was checking me in. He saw that I tried to use my Marriott Nightly Upgrade Awards with no success. After understanding that I was hoping to get a Suite room, he did a quick look in the system to see if there was any suite available. Unfortunately, the only ones that were available were studio suites, but the view was incomparable with our assigned sea view guest room. All said and done, I truly appreciated that level of check-in service and agreed to stick with the sea view room upgrade that we received.
Room Review
The sea view room is on the 10th floor, number 1035. It’s a corner room, so both the room space and the balcony are bigger than some guestrooms.
The room has two queen-sized beds, a long desk, and a lounge chair. The generous space of the room is wonderful.
Although the bathroom has only one sink, it has a bathtub on the side, a walk-in shower, and a completely separate toilet room.
My favorite part of the room is the balcony. It’s spacious and contains two lounging chairs, two sitting chairs, and a table. Looking around the property, I realized that the hotel assigned us a spacious balcony with two lounge chairs because most sea-view rooms have smaller balconies without lounge chairs.
The view of the Mediterranean Sea and the city is also lovely and scenic, especially at night. The road noise, however, is a little bit annoying but bearable.
Marriott Malta M Club Lounge
Malta Marriott Resort & Spa has an M Club Lounge for Marriott Platinum Elite and above members. As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I had access to the M Club for complimentary food, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Marriott Malta M Club Lounge is open 24 hours and has the following services and hours:
- Breakfast: 7 am – 11 am
- Evening Canapes: 5 pm – 7 pm
- Complimentary Alcoholic Beverages: 5 pm – 9 pm
Here’s the full detailed review of the M Club Lounge:
Review: Marriott Malta M Club Lounge
Welcome Amenity
1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points or 10 Euros for food and beverage. But since we got complimentary drinks inside the M Club, I opted for the petty 1,000 bonus points.
Food & Beverage Credits
10 Euros, but I did not choose it and chose points instead because, as a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I had access to the M Club Lounge for free food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages.
Breakfast
As a Marriott Platinum Elite, I had access to free breakfast inside the M Club. If I wanted to have a buffet breakfast inside the on-site restaurant, there was an upcharge of 13 Euros per person.
The breakfast inside the M Club was adequate. It’s a small buffet, but you can also order omelets, eggs benedict, waffles, etc., from the lounge staff, so it’s plentiful.
