Air Franceโ€™s Airbus 350-900 features reverse herringbone business class seats. Each seat also has an enclosed door, making it a private individual suite in a 1-2-1 configuration. For this particular flight from Seattle to Paris, I truly enjoyed the hard product, especially the bulkhead window seat 1A, but the soft product failed to impress me.

  • Duration: 9h40m

Air France A350 Quick Verdict

  • PROS: Boarding was fast. There was an outstanding bulkhead window seat with a privacy door and space. The menu had a wide selection of proteins, especially the lobster appetizer was great. There was also a mini tablet to control most functions within the suite.
  • CONS: There is no Air France lounge at SEA airport, no champagne welcome drink, the prime rib is rather a pot roast with too much fat, the mini tablet failed to function that day, and there was no Wi-Fi due to technical issues. Crew service was not that great, and they had a different service process than what I used to (more details below). The front lavatory is unavailable during the meal services and some other time for the pilots to use only.

Check-In

I performed the mobile check-in to get the boarding pass. But I still needed to go to the gate to let the agent verify my passport document. She also issued me a paper boarding pass.

Air France Lounge Access at Seattle (SEA) Airport

Air France does not have its exclusive lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). However, you can access the Delta Sky Clubs. While the Sky Clubs are good options at SEA airport, I decided to access the Amex Centurion Lounge SEA instead. I prefer the food quality and the Blue Roast section inside the Centurion Lounge, where they make delicious coffee, ice cream, and smoothies.

Please note that you cannot access the Amex Centurion Lounge SEA with an Air France business class boarding pass. Youโ€™ll need an eligible Amex card, such as the American Express Platinum Card or American Express Business Platinum Card.

Boarding and Welcome Drinks

Air France Business Class passengers board inย Zone 1 with Sky Priority. The boarding process was uneventful but went by fairly quickly. Although there was a biometric boarding machine,ย the agent did not use it and manually scanned each boarding pass instead.

On the other hand, I was a little bit disappointed that the flight attendants did not serve the welcome drinks until all passengers in all classes boarded the aircraft, despite the fact that the business class cabin was at the front and did not interfere with the boarding process. Moreover, the welcome drink options do not include champagne. We are talking about a French airline here!

Air France A350 Suite and Cabin

Upon boarding and walking through the aisle to my seat in the business class cabin, the first thing I noticed was the entrance to my seat, which had a door slot.

My bulkhead seat 1A is huge, with a generous amount of space in the ottoman area. It is so large that thereโ€™s an additional stowage drawer, while other non-bulkhead seats are missing. In fact, all the first-row bulkhead seats have a large ottoman area where you could practically sit down like a couch. Therefore, if one of those bulkhead seats is available, I highly recommend it. Moreover, two lavatories and the galley are actually in the back, where flight attendants prepare meals, so it would not be as disturbing as the back row seats.

On the side of the ottoman, thereโ€™s a closet with a hanger.

Bulkhead Seats Vs. Non-Bulkhead Seats

Within the seat pod, thereโ€™s a wireless charger, a noise-canceling headphone, a bottle of water, and a small tablet, which is a nifty tool that can control everything about the suite, such as seat controls, lights, window shades, remote control the entertainment screen and programs. The bulkhead seats distance between the seat and the entertainment monitor is not close, so youโ€™ll appreciate that tablet. Unfortunately, the tabletโ€™s remote control did not function for every business class seat that day. The flight attendant offered to switch me to one of the available non-bulkhead seats, but I did not want to as I enjoyed the space more than that tablet trouble.

As far as the cabin goes, the Air France A350-900 business class cabin features a 1-2-1 configuration enclosed suite. The aisle seems tight, but each suite also features a privacy door, which I really like. Although it is not a floor-to-ceiling type of privacy, itโ€™s private enough that I could not see my neighbor passenger when seated.

Please note that the easiest method to tell if your Air France aircraft type features the suite with a door is to look at Google Flights. Search for a business class flight as you normally do, select your flight, and pay attention to the section where it says Indvidual Suite. If it says Lie flat seat, then thereโ€™s no door.

Air France Business Class Food and Drinks Menu

I like the wide selection of protein lunch choices that consist of beef, chicken, fish, and a vegetarian option. The food is good, especially the cold lobster appetizer. The main dish that I chose, Prime Rib, on the other hand, was not my favorite because it wasnโ€™t really a prime rib. Itโ€™s more of a Pot Roast, and itโ€™s full of greasy fat. I should have chosen the chicken or fish instead. Also, by the time the flight attendant reached my seat, they were out of the croissant. Although my seat is 1A, the meal preparation and services start from the back rows.

Itโ€™s also worth mentioning that Air France allows food pre-orders from 15 days and up to 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure. Before the meal service, I noticed that flight attendants actually went around with a tablet and confirmed with passengers who pre-ordered the food first before taking the orders from the passengers who did not pre-order. In other words, you should pre-order so that they can guarantee the exact food option you selected before they run out of a dish that you want.

The meal service on this flight serves lunch and breakfast. The breakfast option was the omelet with cheese and spinach, which was nothing special.

There is also quite a selection of wines and champagnes. I forgot to take a picture of the beverages menu, but hereโ€™s the food menu.

Air France Lie-Flat Bed with Privacy Door

The hard product on this particular Air France A350-900 is really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the suite with a privacy door, which is great for when I went to sleep after the meal service. The seat turns into a complete lie-flat bed with enough cushion to provide comfort. Moreover, with my seat being the bulkhead seat, the legroom is amazing. The pillow and the blanket in each suite are also soft and comfortable for an enjoyable skybed.

The seat controls function really well to my liking, and the do not disturb sign is just a push of a button on the tablet. As far as the door goes, thereโ€™s a button you can press on the right-hand side of the door slot, and then you can pull the door in and out of the slot to close or open. While the suite is not a floor-to-ceiling private enclosed suite, I felt the privacy of the seat was great.

Air France Business Class Crew Service

I have flown Air France before and was generally happy with the crew service in business class. However, I found the crew service on this particular flight to be a bit unapproachable. The service was slow, and the process that this crew did really threw me off a few times that were out of the business class process norms:

  • Flight attendants only offered welcome drinks after the entire planeโ€™s boarding was complete.
  • The welcome drinks do not include a glass of champagne for a French airline, but they do have champagne on the drinks menu.
  • They also do not provide the amenity kit until after the boarding is complete.
  • The front lavatory is not open to business class passengers during boarding and meal services. I asked one of the flight attendants, and she told me that the front lavatory was primarily for the pilots. That left me perplexed as to why we cannot share. So imagine several business class passengers are trying to use the two lavatories in the back where the galley is, and the flight attendants are preparing meals there. Moreover, if you want to go to the bathroom during the meal service, you may want to hold on until the aisle is clear because the aisle is tight.

Business Class Amenity Kit

Flight attendants do not provide an amenity kit until the boarding is complete. The kit contains the usual toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, eye mask, socks, and a pen. I honestly found the amenity kit to look cheap.

Internet Wi-Fi

Unfortunately, the Internet Wi-Fi on the aircraft was not working due to technical issues that day.
