The no-annual-fee Chase Ink cards are a popular choice among business owners, especially for their huge signup bonuses. However, recent changes in Chaseโs application rules have made it more challenging for those with multiple Ink cards to secure a new one.
In this article, I will share my personal experience applying for a third Chase Ink card and getting approval after a reconsideration call. I will also provide some tips for others who are considering the same.
Chase Ink Business Credit Card Denial
I already held two Chase Ink business cardsย and decided to apply for a third oneโtheย Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card. Unfortunately, my application was denied due to the new guidelines restricting approvals for applicants with multiple Ink cards. I felt frustrated but determined, so I opted to call the reconsideration line to plead my case.
My Chase Reconsideration Call
My reconsideration call with Chase for my Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card went like this:
- I called the Chase reconsideration line for business cards at 1-800-453-9719.
- Once the agent went online, I provided him with my information so that he could access my Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card application.
- He then could review and tell me the application status, which was a denial decision. Meanwhile, he also read the denial reason to me.
- Based on the denial reason, I asked him if he could move the credit from my other Ink card to this card for approval.
- He had to transfer me to another agent.
The phone number I mentioned above will get you to the first department, which can only check your application status. The agent is supposed to transfer you to another department once you ask for a reconsideration. So, if the agent insists no, hang up and call again (HUCA) until you get to the second department for reconsideration.
- When the other agent got on the phone with me, she asked me for my social security number so she could pull up my application again. I also had to repeat myself about moving credit from my Ink Business Preferred card to this new Ink Business Unlimited card for approval possibility.
- During my call, that agent asked about the nature of my business and why I needed a third Ink card.
- I explained to her that the Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card has no annual fee, and I will soon have upcoming huge business expenses that could benefit from this card.
- The agent put me on hold, came back, and expressed concern that I hadnโt used my existing credit lines much on my current two Ink credit cards.
- I continued to explain that my business is seasonal. Winter is a slow period for my business, but I anticipated increased spending in the spring.

- The agent then put me on hold again. This time, she came back and asked which card I wanted to move credit from.
- I told her that I wanted to move credit from my Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card.
- Unfortunately, the call disconnected, and I had to start the process over again. I had to repeat the calling steps and ask the first departmentโs agent to get me to the other agent who was helping me. He, however, could not do that. At that point, I was ready to give up. He then told me that the agent was still working on my application, and he kindly asked me to wait for the decision before I ended the call.
Despite the hiccup, I later received an email about the approval of my Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card application nine days later. Upon checking my account, I saw that Chase indeed moved credit from my other Ink preferred card, as I had requested. While the process was not fun, I felt relieved to get the approval in the end. Below is my timeline:
- February 1: I called the reconsideration line.
- February 10: I received the approval email.
Recommendations for Success
It is a Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) case, so please use the following recommendations as a guideline on how to approach Chase reconsideration calls:
- Before you call the Chase reconsideration line, wait for your application denial reason. The reason for the denial is crucial, as it will guide your conversation with the agent.
- To reach the reconsideration department, call this number: 1-800-453-9719 (check the latest Chase reconsideration phone number here). Be prepared to provide your application information to the agent.
- If the agent insists that they cannot assist you, hang up and call again. You may reach another agent who is more willing to help.
- Be ready to answer questions about the nature of your business.
- When asked why you want an additional card, avoid mentioning the signup bonus directly.
- If you havenโt utilized much of your credit line, provide a reasonable explanation related to your business, such as seasonal fluctuations, etc.
Itโs important to know that Chase does not pull your credit again during a manual review as a result of the reconsideration call.
Conclusion
Each case is unique, and your outcome may vary. However, effective communication about your business needs and reasons for low credit utilization on your other Ink business cards can significantly impact the successful reconsideration call.
