Amex Credit Balance Refund Options
When you use an Amex credit card to pay, and the merchant refunds you the money back to your Amex card, you have three options:
- Continue spending on the card to use up the refund amount, and the Amex system automatically takes care of it.
- Request the credit balance refund back by having Amex send you a check in the mail.
- Request the refund back by transferring the credit balance to another eligible Amex account of yours.
How to Request Amex Credit Balance Refund Online
On your computer’s desktop:
- Go to the official American Express website and sign into your account.
- Select the Amex card that you want to request the credit balance if you have multiple Amex cards.
- Note down the credit balance refund amount, as you will need it later.
- Click on Account Services at the top of the page.
- Click on Disputes
- Then, click on Request Credit Balance Refund
- Confirm your email address on file.
- Select the “I have a credit balance on my account” option, and click Continue.
- Enter the amount of the credit balance refund that you have noted down in step 3.
- Last, select whether you want the refund back as a mailed check or transfer to another of your Amer accounts.
