After closing a Chase credit card, the account remains visible in the online banking profile through the Chase app or the Chase website. It can lead to confusion when reviewing your existing accounts. More importantly, I believe that the visibility of a closed account allows Chase to retain access to all your credit lines, which may result in denials for future credit applications. It has made it more challenging to obtain additional credit for Ink business card applications, for instance.

Hiding Vs. Removing Closed Credit Card From Chase Online Profile

I welcome a broader discussion on this subject, but thereโ€™s a big difference between hiding and removing a closed Chase credit card account online.

  • Hiding a closed credit card in Chase online banking, whether through the Chase app or website, means that the credit line remains active and continues to count towards your total credit lines with Chase.
  • On the contrary, removing a closed credit card in the Chase app or website will eliminate the history and credit line from the total credit that Chase extends to you.

Why is it important to remove the closed account from Chase?

A closed Chase account remains visible in the online profile for a few months before Chase automatically removes it. You can easily hide it from your open accounts, but if you plan to apply for a new Chase credit card, consider removing the closed account instead.

Chase evaluates your credit history, score, and total credit extended when approving applications. If youโ€™ve reached your credit limit with Chase, your new application may be denied. In such cases, you may need to contact Chase to move your credit line from another Chase card to push for an approval. Therefore, removing the closed account is advisable to improve approval chances without reallocating credit, as hiding it wonโ€™t free up the associated credit line.

How to Remove Closed Account from Chase App or Website?

Removing a closed account from the Chase app or website is not something that you can do yourself online. Therefore, you must contact Chase directly to request this. In my experience, I sent Chase a secured message asking them to remove a closed credit card account from my online banking.

The following is the response I received from Chase regarding this matter:

Hello, Thank you for contacting us.

We understand the importance of removing your closed Ink Business Premier card from your online profile. I removed your account ending in XXXX from your online profile. You may need to refresh your page by logging out and back in again for these changes to take effect.

We appreciate you being a Chase customer.
