For those of you who have a Citi Business AAdvantage Business Credit Card, American Airlines automatically creates an AAdvantage Business account for you. It means that for all the miles you earn through your Citi Business AAdvantage Business Credit Card, Citi sends them over to your AAdvantage Business account.

Having such two platforms creates confusion for first-timers because when you look at the mileage activities in your AAdvanage personal account, it appears that your miles are not there.

What is AAdvantage Business?

As its name suggests, American Airlines offers the AAdvantage Business program as a rewards initiative for small and medium-sized businesses. The program allows businesses to earn miles for travel and other eligible purchases and redeem them for flights, upgrades, and other travel-related benefits.

Therefore, AA deposits any business-related miles you earn, including the Citi Business AAdvantage Business Credit Card, in the AAdvantage Business Program.

Itโ€™s also worth mentioning that AA deposits the Loyalty Points you earn through the business credit card into your AAdvantage personal account, not your AAdvantage Business account.

How to Access Your AAdvantage Business Account?

As soon as Citi and AA recognize you are a business credit card member, the AAdvantage Business program is available to you, and you can access it through the following steps:

On a computerโ€™s web browser:

  • Log into your American Airlines account like you normally do.
  • Click on your name on the top right-hand side, and click on Business account. See the photo below.
  • A new page appears asking you for account verification.
  • Once the verification is complete, you will be inside the AAdvantage Business dashboard, where your miles are.

How to Transfer Your AAdvantage Business Miles to Personal?

In order to move your miles from the AAdvantage Business program, you must satisfy the requirements to unlock the business redemption benefits. Those requirements are:

  • You must have an active registered traveler.
  • The registered traveler must spend at least $5,000 on business-related travel.
  • You have an American Airlines business credit card.

Truth be told, the miles and points community applies for a business credit card mainly for the sign-up bonuses. So itโ€™s unimportant whether or not to meet the genuine business travel-related requirements. In that case, having a Citi Business AAdvantage Business Credit Card is sufficient to satisfy the requirement. You then can freely move the miles from the business to a personal account and redeem them through the personal account instead. Hereโ€™s how:

  • Log into your American Airlines account like you normally do using your favorite web browser on a computerโ€™s desktop.
  • Click on your name on the top right-hand side, and click on Business account.
  • A new page appears asking you for account verification.
  • Once the verification is complete, you can access your AAdvantage Business dashboard.
  • Click on the Transfer Miles button.
    • Please note that if the AA system has not recognized you as a Citi business card member, you canโ€™t transfer miles yet. In that case, give it a few days for the system to automatically process it.
  • Specify how many miles you want to transfer.
  • Click on the Continue button.
  • Provide your name or email address to finish the transfer.
    • Your name or email address should automatically populate for you to select. If you do not see it, make sure to add it to the People menu in the AAdvantage Business.

Thatโ€™s it, and your miles are available immediately in your personal AAdvantage account for redemptions.

Conclusion

American Airlines AAdvantage miles you earn through the Citi Business AAdvantage Business Credit Card are not in your regular AAdvantage account. Instead, Citi sends them to AA. AA then deposits them in the AAdvantage Business account that they create for you once it recognizes you are a business card member. It occurs even if you put in your AAdvantage personal account number in the cardโ€™s application. After that, you can move miles from AAdvantage Business to your AAdvantage personal account by accessing the AAdvantage Business dashboard and transferring miles free of charge.
