I have always wanted to visit Guam and stay at a beachfront resort. The Hyatt Regency Guam looks very nice and is one of the best beachfront Guam resorts. With low award redemption for just a category 4 property (now a category 3 property) and an excellent Regency Club for free food and cocktails, I booked the room using the World of Hyatt points, and I used the Hyatt Suite Night Award to get the Regency Suite room.

Here’s a review in detail and how I made the booking at Hyatt Regency Guam:

    Location

Hyatt Regency Guam is a real beachfront property in Tumon Bay’s center. You are within walking distance of many restaurants and shopping at the Guam Plaza.
This Hyatt property has an excellent location for first-timers to Guam to enjoy the sun, beach, ocean, and things that Guam offers in Tumon Bay.

    Suite Room Upgrades

I chose to use one Hyatt Suite Night Award and asked my Globalist concierge to apply the award to block the standard Suite, the Regency Suite, after I booked and verified the standard award night for the Regency Suite was available for points booking. I’m glad I did because Hyatt Regency Guam was completely sold out during the 5 nights I stayed there. The property was very honest about the upgrade when I asked for an additional complimentary upgrade to the Executive or Presidential Suite. I was told it was unavailable but would ensure I received one of the best Regency Suite rooms at the property.
Hyatt Regency Guam has an Asian type of hospitality, which is generally very good in elite recognition and makes your stay more enjoyable. Therefore, if you ask, they would be willing to upgrade you to a suite for being a Globalist member, subject to availability. Remember that each hotel exists to make money, so they will try to sell the rooms first, including the suites, before free upgrading you for being a Globalist.
Hyatt Regency Guam is one of the best resorts in Guam. It is in high demand among Korean and Japanese travelers, so the chances of it getting sold out are high, especially if you stay multiple consecutive nights. If you have Hyatt Suite Night Awards to burn, that’s likely the route you want to take. If not, set low expectations and try to communicate with the property beforehand to see what could be done for any room upgrade request.

    Regency Suite Room Review

After entering Regency Suite room 803, I saw this huge entry space I thought was a waste of space.

    Huge Entry Space
The living room has a big sofa, a table, and a TV. To the left is the mini-bar, but there’s nothing in the fridge other than a few bottles of water. There’s another table in the living room and a welcome note with a bottle of Cabinet red wine.

A gigantic balcony connects to the bedroom’s balcony through the sliding door. If the humidity is not too bad, I enjoyed sitting on the balcony overlooking incredible views of the beautiful color ocean and white sand beach.

The bedroom has a king-size bed. While the bed is comfortable, I did not like the pillows because they are too soft.

There’s a small sitting desk for make-up and a walk-in closet at the corner of the bedroom before entering the bathroom.

As I mentioned, the bedroom’s balcony is also nice and connects to the living room’s balcony. Since suite 803 is a corner suite, the balcony offers gorgeous ocean views and resort pools from all angles.

    Corner Regency Suite Room
Overall, the Regency Suite room at the Hyatt Regency Guam offers plenty of space, amazing sea views, and the resort’s grounds. There are 14 floors, and we were given the 8th floor with a corner view.

    Hyatt Regency Guam Club Lounge

Hyatt Regency Guam has a Regency Club. You can access the club lounge if you are a Hyatt Globalist elite member or reserve the room with club access through cash, points, or Hyatt Club Lounge Access Awards.

    Welcome Amenity Gift

A handwritten welcome note by the guest manager welcomes me as a valuable Globalist member. Before my arrival, a complimentary Cabinet of red wine and oranges were provided inside the suite room.

    Food & Beverage Credits

No food and beverage credits are offered at the Hyatt Regency Guam for Globalist elite members. However, as a Globalist, you have free access to the Regency Club with all-you-can-eat food and alcoholic beverages during the evening service. See the full review of the Regency Club here:

    Breakfast

As a Globalist, you typically can enjoy complimentary breakfast inside the Regency Club. However, it’s different at the Hyatt Regency Guam. You and one additional guest can enjoy the buffet breakfast at the on-site restaurant, Café Kitchen.
The buffet breakfast at Hyatt Regency Guam is abundant! There are so many food options, and it caters to everyone.
They have American buffet breakfast, Asian buffet breakfast, and European buffet breakfast. I guarantee you will not leave the restaurant on an empty stomach. There are many hot and cold food selections, and breakfast can get busy and crowded.

    Dining

There are a few dining options at the Hyatt Regency Guam. Check the following website for more information about Hyatt Regency Guam Dining
Also, note that Hyatt Regency Guam is centrally located in the Tumon Bay area. Therefore, several dining options are available within walking distance when you step out of the resort onto the main road. There’s also a beach bar Tabu close by on the beach and a cook-yourself Korean BBQ place at the end of the beach walk, a short walk from the Hyatt.

    Resort Fee

Hyatt Regency Guam does not have resort fees. Even if it does, the resort fee is waived when you redeem World of Hyatt free nights.

    Parking

There’s valet parking available for $8 per vehicle, but it’s free for Globalists on award stays. If you want to avoid valet parking, Hyatt Regency Guam offers free self-parking at the garage attached to the property. It’s an easy peasy walk, in and out, any time of the day.

    Pet Policy

Hyatt Regency Guam does not take pets or pets policy. Therefore, it’s best to inquire about it with the property directly should you want to stay with a pet.

    Housekeeping

At check-in, the front desk asked me whether I wanted housekeeping service on request or not? I chose on request and put a “do not disturb” sign on the door during the entire 5-night stay there.

    Laundry

Self-service coin-operated laundry is available at the Hyatt Regency Guam. It costs $4 per load for laundry and dryer. You can buy the detergent and get coins from the Deli located on the lobby level. The laundry room is on the 6th, 9th, and 12th floors.

    Internet/Wi-Fi

The Internet works well inside the property but could be better in the swimming pool area.
If you are from the U.S. mainland, inquire with your cell phone service provider about using your data in Guam. Here’s information for those that use Sprint, now part of T-Mobile, for their global roaming plan.

    Bottled Water

The Regency Suite has a few water bottles in the refrigerator, and the hotel is generous about giving free water bottles.

    Early Check-in

Our flight arrived from Honolulu with United Polaris late in the evening, so we did not do any early check-in. But any request is possible regarding Globalist perks, subject to availability. The regular check-in time is 3pm.

    Late Check-out

Globalists can get a late check-out up to 4pm. However, this is always subject to availability. In my case, they did not want to extend beyond the regular check-out noon time, and I asked for a 1pm late check-out, so we settled for 12:30pm 😉 They were apologetic about it, but they were also sold out.

    Spa

Hyatt Regency Guam does not have a spa, and its website indicates it is unavailable until further notice.

    Fitness Center

Yes located on the lobby level near the souvenir store.

    In-Room Safe

    Yes, located inside the closet.

    Robes & Slippers

    Yes, located inside the closet.

    Swimming Pool

Hyatt Regency Guam has multiple pools. While there’s no adults-only pool, the sectional resort pools have things for everyone.
The swimming pool complex at the Hyatt Regency Guam is huge, but they are not connected to each other though if you look from above, it appears they should be connected, but they are not. Nonetheless, the pools, caves, water slides, the lazy river, and rock formations are all beautiful.
When you check in, you are given towel cards to exchange for pool towels. Do not lose the card. Floating tubes are also free to use for guests.

    Beach & Ocean

The beach at Hyatt Regency Guam is a public beach shared among other resorts in the Tumon Bay area. The beautiful white sand beach is truly photogenic, but wear shoes or water shoes if you want to do beach walking because the sand is hard and has small shells and coral rocks that may not make your walk comfortable with bare feet.

The sand in the ocean, on the hand, is soft. Two things I love about the ocean at the Tumon Bay, the water has a beautiful color, no waves, shallow and the sand at the bottom of the sea is super soft, making it incredible easy to swim and stand. Best of all, the sea water is warmer than the resort pools! If you enjoy ocean swimming and hanging around, you’ll definitely love the ocean at Hyatt Regency Guam.
