I did a mattress run to the Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport that coincided with my trip down to Atlanta, Georgia, for a couple nights.
I chose not to stay in downtown Atlanta because I wanted to earn 20,000 bonus IHG One reward points that are part of the promotion from extending my IHG Diamond Elite status through the InterContinental Ambassador Program. The rate at the Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport was right to enjoy a nice 2-night stay, suite upgrades, and complimentary breakfast as an IHG Diamond Elite member.
Do I go all my way to stay there again? Not if I have a particular IHG points goal in mind!

Location
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport is a short drive from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport is also an accommodation that is part of the Porsche experience hotel in Atlanta, which offers Porsche driving experiences on tracks.
The location of Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport is not ideal if you are going to sightsee Atlanta a few times a day because it still requires 10 minutes of driving or so to reach downtown Atlanta. We used Uber to check out Atlanta’s downtown attractions one day. Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport also offers a complimentary airport shuttle from/to the airport and any locations within 3 miles radius of the hotel. More below.

A train track is also near Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport. Given the train tracks and its proximity to the airport, the hotel’s soundproofing is good because we hardly hear anything.
Suite Room Upgrades
A few days before my check-in, I reached out to IHG and asked them to add a request note to my reservation as an IHG Diamond Elite member requested a suite upgraded with a track view if available. So surprisingly, I got an upgrade to the exact suite that my request said.
I verified the upgrade by looking at the room type in my reservation before check-in. See the screenshot below.

Suite Room Review
The suite is located on the 4th floor. It’s a nice suite with ample space, such as a living area, a bedroom, a shower room, and a separate toilet room. But I would not categorize it as an upscale boutique suite you may find at other Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants brands.

Complimentary Airport Shuttle
The Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport shuttle is on request only between 5am and 12am midnight. There’s no set time. In other words, when you arrive, you must call the hotel for the shuttle pick up and when you are ready to go to the airport. This type of “on request” also means that you may be waiting a bit if the shuttle is unavailable when you need it. This happened to us as we waited for almost 30 minutes to get the airport shuttle from the airport’s domestic terminal after a couple calls to the hotel. A few reviews on TripAdvisor complained about the same issue with the airport shuttle at Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport.
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport also offers a free shuttle to take you to restaurants and surrounding areas within 3 miles of the property.

Kimpton Secret Password
During my check-in date, there was a Kimpton Secret Password promotion, and I used the phrase, and I was offered complimentary parking. However, I did not have a car, so the hotel offered two drinks vouchers for a glass of wine or beer instead at the onsite bar.
Reading the voucher, it looks like it is for guests who missed the evening social hour. The front desk clerk specifically wrote “Winter Social” on the voucher, indicating the voucher is for Kimpton Social Password.

Evening Social Wine Hour
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport has an evening social hour for complimentary unlimited glasses of wine daily from 5pm to 6pm. The social hour takes place at the onsite Apron restaurant bar.
There was an issue when we went for the social hour. The bartender needed to understand how the social wine hour worked. He told us to go to the front desk to get a voucher, and we had to wait in line at the front desk for 10 minutes simply to be told that a voucher was not needed for the evening social hour. We relayed that message to the bartender, who said, “oh, they told me otherwise.” It was an unpleasant experience due to the waiting time, but we enjoyed free glasses of wine at the bar.

Welcome Amenity
As an IHG Diamond Elite member, I elected to have a free breakfast as the welcome amenity. In my account, I also revived 600 IHG welcome points, and the front desk clerk also offered me two $10 raid-the-bar vouchers that can be used for dining expenses at the onsite Apron restaurant and bar. She said that IHG Diamond Elite members usually only got one $10 raid-the-bar voucher, but because of the airport shuttle issue, she gave us 2 vouchers. But reading the IHG elite benefits for the Kimpton brand states that IHG Diamond Elite and Kimpton Inner Circle can choose from a $20/Raid the Bar credit, Free breakfast for 2, or IHG One Reward points for a welcome amenity. However, I got all three welcome amenity benefits instead of choosing one, so I can’t complain!

Food & Beverage Credits
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport offers me two $10 raid-the-bar vouchers and two drinks vouchers as part of the Kimpton Secret Password promotion, as mentioned above.
The $10 raid-the-bar voucher can be used for either drinks or meals at the onsite Apron restaurant and bar. However, you redeem it when you check out by giving the voucher to the front desk, and they will credit you towards any dining expenses in your stay’s folio.
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport also has evening social wine hours from 5pm to 6pm. The wines are complimentary and unlimited as long as you can drink 🙂

You get one main item and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks with a 20% gratuity included (see the picture above). Any special drinks and additional tips are not included. After breakfast, the waiter takes away your breakfast voucher, and that’s it. You do not have to sign anything.

Dining
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport has two restaurants onsite: The Rooftop and Apron on the ground floor.
The Rooftop only opens based on the season, so unfortunately, it was closed when we were there in the wintertime.
The ground floor Apron opens daily, and here are the hours:
- Breakfast: M-F 6:30am-10:30am, Sat-Sun 6:30am-12pm
- Lunch: 11am-2pm
- Dinner: 5pm-10pm
- Bar stays open until 11pm or, based on the capacity (strange!)
Amenity Fee

Pet Policy

Need access code. The IHG internet asked for the room number and last name, but it did not work. So you must use the access code instead.
Bottled Water
Yes. However, Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport could be better with more than one bottle. You can ask for more if you want to.
Early Check-in
The regular check-in time is 4pm, but we did not utilize the early check-in as our flight into Atlanta was late.
Late Check-out
The regular check-out time is 12pm, and I did not utilize the late check-out as an IHG Diamond Elite member as we had to leave early morning.
Spa
Kimpton Overland Hotel Atlanta Airport does not have spa services, just a swimming pool that they refer to as a “spa.” See below.
Swimming Pool
Located on the lobby floor by the fitness center, it’s a long jacuzzi hot tub pool. They also refer to it as a “spa.”
