How Does IHG InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night Work?
- You earn an InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night each year after joining or renewing your InterContinental Ambassador membership.
- Membership costs $200 or 40,000 IHG One Rewards points.
- Consider purchasing or renewing when there’s a promotion available.
- You receive the InterContinental Free Weekend Night reward in your IHG One Rewards account immediately upon purchasing and renewing your InterContinental Ambassador membership.
- The InterContinental Free Weekend Night is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Technically, it’s valid for more than 12 months:
- For example, I purchased the InterContinental Ambassador status on November 1, 2022, and the weekend night reward is set to expire on January 1, 2024, instead of November 1, 2023.
- You cannot redeem the InterContinental Free Weekend Night with a check-out date beyond the reward’s expiration date.
- A minimum two-night paid stay is required when booking the InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate.
- You can use the InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate at worldwide InterContinental Hotels and Resorts and through December 31, 2022, participating Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and Regent Hotels and Resorts.
- The InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate is the Flexible Rate that is refundable based on the cancellation policy.
- The InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night is not transferable or for sale.
- Weekend is defined as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, except in the Middle East, where hotels may define the weekend as Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
- The InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night reservation shows the full rate on both nights when booked; however, the hotel will adjust the rate and gives you a free night for the second night at check-in.
- You can redeem the InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night online via the IHG website through your IHG One Rewards account. I’ll show you how below.

How to Find IHG InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night?
To find your InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night is very simple.
On the IHG Website:
- Go to the IHG One Rewards account and sign in.
- Click on the Rewards Wallet, and your unredeemed Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night reward is listed there. See the screenshot below.
- Don’t confuse it with other IHG free night(s) that you may earn through IHG Rewards Promotions and Offers or Chase IHG Credit Cards.
On the IHG Mobile App:
- Open the IHG app on your mobile device and sign in.
- Tap on the Account at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll a little bit down and tap on the Rewards Wallet.
- Your unredeemed Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night reward is listed there. See the screenshot below.
- Don’t confuse it with other IHG free night(s) that you may earn through IHG Rewards Promotions and Offers or Chase IHG Credit Cards.

How to Book IHG InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night?
Redeeming the IHG InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night can be done in two (2) ways.
Method #1:
- Locate the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night reward in your IHG One Rewards account per the instruction above.
- Simply click on the Redeem button.
- You are taken to the InterContinental website and perform your search to book like you normally do.
Method #2:
The following method also works if you do not have InterContinental Ambassador status yet, and are looking to check the Ambassador Weekend Night rate to see if the program is worth the membership cost. You do not have to be a member to check for the rate. However, remember the following:
- A minimum two-night paid stay is required
- The rate is only valid for a weekend stay
- The rate is only valid for the Flexible Rate, though the IHG system will automatically show you that on the result page.
- The reservation shows the full rate on both nights. The second night will be comped when you check into the hotel, provided that you have an unredeemed Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night in your IHG One Rewards account.

Does IHG Ambassador Free Weekend Night Earn IHG One Rewards Points?
IHG Ambassador free weekend night booking requires a minimum two-night paid stay. In other words, your first night is a paid night stay, and your second night is complimentary. Therefore, you will earn IHG One Rewards points only on the money you pay for the first night.
Does IHG Ambassador Free Weekend Night Earn Qualified Elite Night?
Yes. InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate is an eligible rate for earning qualified elite night credits towards your IHG One elite status, despite being a free night reward stay.
Additionally, the InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate is a qualifying rate for earning any IHG Rewards Promotions and Offers, including the InterContinental Ambassador program’s promotion that offers bonus points after completing qualifying stays as part of the joining and renewing Ambassador status promotion. You may see wording like this in the offer’s terms and conditions:
The Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night rate is a Qualifying Rate, and the complimentary night may be counted towards the two nights needed to qualify for the additional 20,000 bonus points.
Can You Cancel IHG Ambassador Free Weekend Night Reservation?
Yes. The InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate is based on the Standard Flexible Rate (a.k.a cancellable refundable rate), which can be higher than the advanced non-refundable rate.
Therefore, when you need to cancel a reservation booked with the InterContinental Ambassador Free Weekend Night rate, you can do so subject to the cancellation policy on the reservation. You can also rebook after the cancellation in case the nightly rate drops.
