I stayed at The Hotel Lucerne in Switzerland on our trip to the Swiss Alps. The Hotel Lucerne is an Autograph Collection focusing on independent premium luxury properties within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

Honestly, I felt that The Hotel Lucerne failed to impress me as an upscale luxury hotel and was not worth the expensive nightly rate. Still, it was nice to use the Marriott Free Night 50k Certificate to redeem for a two-night free stay there, especially since it’s really expensive to vacation in Switzerland.

    Location

I like the location of The Hotel Lucerne. It is very convenient to stay there and get to explore everything that Lucerne has to offer. Everything is within walking distance of the property, ranging from Lucerne old town and Lakefront Lucerne to all sorts of public transportation for sightseeing.

    Deluxe Room Upgrades

As a Marriott Platinum Elite, our room got a complimentary upgrade from the Street View King Room to the Deluxe Park View King Room

It’s worth noting that it is known that The Hotel Lucerne does upgrade Marriott elite members up to the Penthouse Jr. Suite. A couple of days before the check-in date, I noticed that our room was upgraded to the Corner Junior Suite room with a Park View. However, our room was downgraded to the Deluxe Park View King Room on arrival day. Apparently, The Hotel Lucerne moved reservations around to accommodate cash-paid guests, and it was a busy weekend in Lucerne.
It is what it is! I did not appreciate that they switched and downgraded our room from a Junior Suite to a Deluxe Standard Room. This is to show that complimentary upgrades are subject to availability on arrival.

    Room Review

The Deluxe King Room with a Park View at The Hotel Lucerne has a lot to be desired.
The lack of light and low ceiling makes the room look rather dark and small, and I felt that the room is just a place to lay my head for a good night’s sleep. The room is really small and is not worth the price tag at all.

Moreover, it is impossible to relax inside the room due to its size, and the chairs inside the room are just for looks, and they are not comfortable sitting on them.

Besides the large bed and the practical ensuite bathroom, the Deluxe room at The Hotel Lucerne failed to impress me as an Autograph Collection by Marriott.

    Club Lounge

The Hotel Lucerne does not have a Club Lounge for Marriott elite members.

    Welcome Amenity

The receptionist at The Hotel Lucerne did not acknowledge my Marriott Platinum Elite status, but that’s okay. So she did not tell me about the welcome amenity points or the complimentary breakfast until I asked.
As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, I received 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points

    Food & Beverage Credits

None. However, now that I think about this. I think The Hotel Lucerne failed to provide me the $10 F&B credit as an Autograph Collection brand in Europe?

    Complimentary Breakfast

As a Marriott Platinum Elite, complimentary breakfast every morning is provided by The Hotel Lucerne in the form of a voucher. See the photo below.

    Early Check-in

Despite my Marriott Platinum Elite status, early check-in at The Hotel Lucerne was impossible. The regular check-in time is 3pm, so that’s when the room was ready for us to check-in. We dropped our bags at the front desk and went sightseeing Lucerne.

    Late Check-out

Late check-out is possible, subject to availability for Marriott Platinum Elite and above members. We did not request one; the regular check-out time is 12pm at The Hotel Lucerne.

How You Can Stay at The Hotel Lucerne For Free?

Switzerland is an expensive vacation destination, but with the help of hotel rewards program points, you can save significant money on lodging in Switzerland, such as Lucerne. I do not recommend you stay at The Hotel Lucerne with cash because I don’t feel that the hotel is as cool as it claims to be, and certainly, it’s not worth the expensive nightly rate. Instead, consider redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points or using Marriott Free Night Certificate for a free stay there.
