When Hyatt broke the news that the Hyatt Place Moab would jump up two categories, I immediately redeemed for standard free nights while the property was a Hyatt's category 2 property. It is now a Hyatt's category 4 property, meaning you can use your Hyatt Free Night Award Category 1-4 for redemption.

Suppose you are a World of Hyatt Globalist member. In that case, you can even maximize your standard free night redemption by getting an upgrade to the Casita room type, which is an individual standalone house unit. I'll share the tip on scoring that upgrade throughout the following review.

    Location

Hyatt Place Moab is not a short walking distance to the central Moab, so you definitely need a car. But it's very close to the Arches National Park's entrance on Main Street, along with the Element Moab and Fairfield Inn & Suites Moab by Marriott

    Casita Upgrade Tip For Globalist

I used World of Hyatt points to redeem for the standard King with a Sofa Bed, but on the morning of my arrival date, I asked the general manager for an upgrade to the Casita unit, and my wish was granted.

It's worth noting that the Casita room type is not the Standard Suite that's part of the Globalist upgrade benefit, so you cannot use Hyatt Suite Night Award for the Casita's redemption.

Here's how I successfully requested the upgrade to the Casita room as a World of Hyatt Globalist member, and you can try too.

A little disclaimer: Please note that this is purely based on my personal experience, and your experience may differ. Getting upgraded to the Casita unit is not guaranteed and is always at the discretion of the Hyatt Place Moab. Moreover, the Casita room type is not the Standard Suite upgrade benefit for Globalist members.

    • A day before or on the day of your check-in date, do a quick search on the Hyatt website and check availability for the dates you are staying.
    • Check the cash rate and see if the Casita room is available for sale.
    • If it is NOT available, you are out of luck! You won't be upgraded to Casita, sorry! The hotel is here to make money; therefore, they prefer to sell each Casita to guests than upgrade you for free.
    • If it is available, then you are in luck! Compose an email asking for the Casita upgrade and send it to the General Manager (GM) at devin.soli@hyatt.com of the Hyatt Place Moab.
      • Double check the email address if the GM has been changed by going to the Hyatt Place Moab website and scrolling down to the Map, Parking + Transportation section.
    • Wait for the GM's response.

From my personal experience, the General Manager is not very responsive. So make sure to email him first thing in the morning to give him time to reply. His response to my request was he had to route my request to the front desk, and within 30 minutes, I saw my room changed to Casita in the Hyatt app. He did not even reply and told me it was done. Therefore, if you do not hear from him, check your reservation to see if the upgrade happens.

As a last resort, you can also call the property to inquire about the upgrade possibility or ask for an upgrade at check-in. I don't like to call or ask for an upgrade on arrival because some check-in receptionists are not very competent. Moreover, do not check in online until you get the room you want.

    Casita Review

Please note that Hyatt Place Moab has a limited number of eight (8) Casita units. When choosing which unit, you should ask for Casita unit numbers 401 through 404. These Casita rooms will give you better views of the hotel pools and mountain range from your Casita's balcony. The other Casita unit's balcony has a view of the main parking lot. See comparison photos below.

Our Casita unit number is 403, and I was very pleased with the stay. We were traveling with our two dogs, so having a "house" was very nice and helpful for those two spoiled and rotten maniacs to roam around. The Casita is huge and spacious, with 841 square feet. This is how Hyatt Place Moab describes this room type:

Spread out in this two-bedroom casita featuring one king bed and two queen beds, two bathrooms, and a separate living area, all within 841 square feet of space.

The Casita has a doorbell, and upon entering the Casita, you are greeted with a spacious living area, kitchen, and a lovely balcony with a beautiful view of the mountain range and the hotel swimming pool and hot tub.

There are two bedrooms in Casita. One bedroom has two queen beds, and another has a king-size bed. The queen room has a pool view, the king room has an en-suite bathroom, and another bathroom in the hallway. I wish the shower water was a little bit stronger, and it also took a little longer than usual for the hot water, given the Casita units are far away from the hotel's hot water tank.

Overall, the Casita unit is like a house, and the way it's built is like a townhome because each Casita unit is attached to another unit. See the photo and video below.

    Club Lounge

Hyatt Place Moab does not have a club lounge.

    Welcome Amenity

I was not offered any welcome amity at check-in as a Globalist, so no.

    Complimentary Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary to all guests, regardless of whether the guest has Hyatt elite status or not. But you must be a World of Hyatt member and book directly with Hyatt to receive complimentary breakfast for Hyatt Place and Hyatt House properties.

The buffet breakfast is served from 6 AM to 10 AM every morning. Both hot and cold options are good, and the hotel changes the hot options daily.

    Dining

Hyatt Place Moab has an on-site restaurant called the Placery, but to be honest, the food is not good. It's very basic and lacks quality. The alcoholic drinks are also overpriced. I'd suggest you go check out other dining options in town. There's also an expensive Sunset Grill on the hill by the Hyatt Place Moab, a steakhouse restaurant. Otherwise, a few good options exist in the downtown Moab, including food trucks.

It's worth mentioning that in Utah state, they check and scan IDs for everyone who purchases alcoholic beverages, regardless you look old or young. It's Utah's law!

    Resort Fee

There's no resort fee at Hyatt Place Moab

    Parking

Parking is free for all hotel guests.

Casita units are away from the main hotel's building. Each unit has its own parking spot, so you don't have to go through the hotel's front desk.

    Early Check-in

The standard check-in time at Hyatt Place Moab is 3 PM.

Around 1 PM, I checked in through the Hyatt mobile app when I discovered that I got upgraded to the Casita unit. I indicated my arrival time was 7 PM, but the room was ready immediately after I performed the online check-in and gave me the room number and mobile digital key feature. So if your room is available, I'm sure Hyatt Place Moab is willing to accommodate your early check-in request.

    Late Check-out

The check-out time at Hyatt Place Moab is 11 AM.

Late check-out is available, especially for Globalist members. But it's all subject to availability. I did not request the late check-out because we had to leave early after breakfast at Hyatt Place Moab to join the Mesa Verde National Park Cliff Dwelling Tour

    Swimming Pool

Hyatt Place Moab has a good-sized swimming pool and a hot tub; both can be seen from our Casita's balcony. The pool hours are from 8 AM to 10 PM daily.

Hot Tub & Swimming Pool at Hyatt Place Moab

The hot tub is very hot, so it helps cool it down when you turn on the jet. The pool is semi-heated but still too cool for me to swim in it. I saw a few guests enjoying the hot tub and taking a quick dip in the pool afterward.

The swimming pool is located on the second floor, and the Casita building has direct access to the pool area.
