We took the Amtrak train from Los Angeles to Seattle in the sleeper car. At Los Angeles Amtrak Union Station, we were allowed to access the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge for quick relaxation and enjoy food and drinks before boarding the train.

Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge at Los Angeles Union Station is mediocre, small but practical; here’s the review:

    Amtrak Lounge Los Angeles Location

The Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge is located on the second level inside the Los Angeles Amtrak Union Station. You first find the Avis and Budget rental car counters, turn left and take the elevator to the lounge on the second level. You have to press the ring for the lounge attendant to open the door and check you into the lounge.
The attendant was helpful and explained to us everything about the lounge, baggage storage, and the red cab ride to the train station when ready to board around 9:15 or 9:30 AM. Our train was scheduled to leave at 9:40AM.

Who Can Use Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge?

We were traveling in the sleeper cars, so we were allowed to access the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge.
In general, the following Amtrak passengers are eligible for Amtrak lounge access:
    • Amtrak passengers with Select Plus or Select Executive membership card.
    • Amtrak passengers traveling in First Class or sleeping car accommodations.
    • Amtrak passengers traveling in Business Class.
    • Amtrak passengers with lounge pass.
It’s worth mentioning that whether you use cash or redeem Amtrak Guest Rewards points for the train ride, you are treated the same as any Amtrak passengers mentioned above to access the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge.

    Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge Food

The Amtrak train leaves in the morning, so the lounge food is limited to only some packaged pastries.

Therefore, if you want a heavier breakfast, a Mexican restaurant called Cilantro makes breakfast burritos or Subway sandwiches inside the Union Station. You are okay to take food into the lounge.
For sleeper car passengers traveling from LA to Seattle in the morning schedule, it’s worth noting that the Amtrak train does not serve breakfast that morning.

    Lounge Drinks

The drinks inside the lounge are non-alcoholic drinks from water to soda, coffee, and tea.

    Lounge Seats

The Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge at Los Angeles Union Station is small, but plenty of seats are available in the lounge, from tables to couches.

    Bathroom

There’s a bathroom inside the lounge.

    Baggage Storage

You can also store your bags inside the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge. There’s a dedicated spot for all passenger bags, and the lounge attendant can go over the details with you.

    Complimentary Red Cap Service

One nice thing about using the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge is that you can also enjoy the Amtrak Red Cap Service that can come and help you with your bags and take you to the track where your train leaves. The red cap service is free of charge, and tipping is optional.
If you are new to the Amtrak Red Cap Service, the term Red Cap basically refers to the Amtrak employees with red jackets and hats whose main job is to assist Amtrak passengers.
Getting from the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge Los Angeles to the train tracks requires a little bit of walking through a tunnel, but it’s not too bad of a walk; however, it was nice to take advantage of the complimentary Amtrak red cap service and get taken to the exact train track number via the mover car. This red cap service is especially beneficial to passengers that need extra assistance.
