A reader sent me an email in response to one of the data points that I provided with Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) booking that earned me Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits at the Palace Hotel San Francisco. The reader prefers the World of Hyatt program over the Marriott Bonvoy program, and therefore, he wants to know if booking with Amex FHR to use up his $200 annual hotel credit benefit will also earn him World of Hyatt points and elite nights too?

While I personally have not gone out and tested this out like I did for the Marriott experience mentioned above, I have done some researches for the reader and the result is YES, you can earn World of Hyatt points and elite nights from Amex FHR bookings, but there are a few things you should be aware of.

Does Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts booking earn World of Hyatt points and elite nights?

The short answer is YES. From the data points that I have gathered, right after you make your reservation with Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR), your reservation should show up in your Hyatt’s account as well. This aligns with what I experienced with Amex FHR booking that earned me the Marriott Bonvoy points. But there is one crucial step you should note:
    • Before finalizing your Amex FHR booking, make sure you put in your World of Hyatt number in the entry field under the Loyalty Number. See the screenshot below.
      • This is a very important step to have your Amex FHR reservation show up in your World of Hyatt account. This is a way to have your FHR booking recognized as an eligible rate to earn your World of Hyatt points, etc.
      • A reference pointed out that the Loyalty Number field only takes numbers, and because the World of Hyatt account number contains letters, he could not add the loyalty number during the Amex FHR booking process. But he called Amex travel and the Amex representative called the hotel directly to have his World of Hyatt number added to the reservation successfully. I tested this out and the Amex Travel system appeared to take my Hyatt account number just fine but I did not go all the way to complete the booking. Therefore, just keep this in mind if you run into this problem. You can either call the Amex travel’s representatives or call the hotel directly to have your World of Hyatt account number added to the reservation.

Do Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings qualify for Hyatt Promotions, Brand Explorer, and Milestone Rewards?

Yes. Because the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) rate is an eligible rate to earn you World of Hyatt points and elite nights as discussed above, you will be able to also earn all the bonus points through Hyatt promotions and offers including brand stays towards your Hyatt’s brand explorer and Hyatt Milestone Reward.

If I do not receive the World of Hyatt points and elite nights from the Amex FHR booking after my stay, what should I do?

First of all, I suggest that you take time to read this entire article because it is very important to have your World of Hyatt account number entered correctly when you make an Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) booking. That’s the only way that Hyatt can recognize you being a World of Hyatt member.
After your stay and you did not receive the World of Hyatt points and elite nights, data points from FlyerTalk gurus suggest that you contact Hyatt and have them check their own internal document pertaining to the benefits you should be receiving when booking with Amex FHR under the “Fine Hotels and Resorts Rate Plan SOP.” Here’s the screenshot of the document:

Hyatt’s Fine Hotels and Resorts Rate Plan SOP
As you can see, that is an internal document from Hyatt indicating that Amex FHR bookings are eligible rates to earn you World of Hyatt points, etc. in addition to Amex FHR benefits.

Below are the benefits that you receive when you book a stay with Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts:
    • Noon check-in, when available
    • Room upgrade upon arrival, when available
    • Daily breakfast for two people
    • Guaranteed 4pm late check-out
    • Complimentary Wi-Fi
    • Special amenities unique to each property such as on-property credits that are valued at least $100 to use towards spa or food and beverage.

Do you earn World of Hyatt points with the MGM and Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) booked through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts?

This is when it gets confusing when it comes to these Hyatt’s special partners.
Simply put, if you book Amex FHR for an MGM or SLH stay, unfortunately, you will NOT be able to earn World of Hyatt points because your bookings will be considered as a third-party booking in the eyes of the MGM and SLH themselves before it is communicated to Hyatt.
For what is worth, there’s a data point indicating that the user is able to get elite nights credited at the Delano Las Vegas after contacting Hyatt concierge to intervene with the issue.

Checklist for Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) Bookings Earning World of Hyatt Points and Elite Nights

    • Make sure your World of Hyatt account number is entered before finalizing your Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) booking.
      • If your Hyatt number cannot be entered due to the combination of character and number issues, call the Amex travel customer service or hotel directly to have your Hyatt number added to the reservation.
      • If you are booking a stay with MGM or SLH through Amex FHR, you should be aware that the FHR rate may be considered a third-party rate according to the MGM and SLH. Therefore, you may not earn World of Hyatt points and Hyatt’s elite nights.
    • Make sure you see your reservation show up in your Hyatt account after having your Hyatt number added to your Amex FHR reservation.
    • Enjoy your stay! You should receive all the Amex FHR benefits along with your World of Hyatt benefits as well during your stay.
    • Worst-case scenario after your stay, if you do not see the World of Hyatt points and elite nights, contact Hyatt to have them review their own internal document under “Fine Hotels and Resorts Rate Plan SOP” showing that the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) rate is World of Hyatt points eligible.

    1. Felix, that's a great question. I reached out to my Globalist concierge and see if she knows. I'll let you know what I hear back.

My thought is, once the FHR reservation shows up in Hyatt, you should be able to contact Hyatt to see if they can apply the suite upgrade awards to that reservation.

    2. Felix, here's what Hyatt said: "As long as the AMEX booking comes through our system as eligible we can apply a suite upgrade to the stay."

    3. That kinda what I thought and was trying to look up online after my Globalist concierge told me I couldnt, and I knew she didnt know what she was talking about when she said I wouldnt earn points or count as elite nights. Guess I need a new concierge 🙂 Thanks for checking on that
