The other day I came across a very interesting transaction with Fluz App gift card purchase for Uber Eats on my credit card’s account. In the past, it is known from the miles and points community that, all gift card purchases through Fluz App triggers Amex Shop Small credit, so I did not expect to see an Uber Eats gift card purchase with Fluz App actually triggers dining category instead of shop small. But that’s not all, throughout my research it appears that some transactions actually trigger grocery, travel, office supplies, and possibly more.
This opens quite a few opportunities when it comes to credit card spending to receive either bonus points or statement credits by category.

Fluz, pronounced as “Floos”, is a mobile app platform that is based in New York and offers cashback when you pay for your everyday transactions with gift cards that are purchased from the Fluz app.
You receive the cashback based on the amount of gift card you purchase and the payment method that you use. Each cashback offer may vary from one merchant to another. You can see the total cashback that you’ll receive from a transaction before you finalize your purchase all through the Fluz app.
If you do not have a Fluz account before, you can get the Fluz App and join for free. You’ll receive 3 vouchers that each voucher unlocks up to 35% cashback deals as a welcome offer and additional cashback every time you spend on Fluz App.
All the cashback you earn from Fluz can stack with your credit card rewards which will increase your earnings even more.

Fluz App Referral Code

As I mentioned above, if you are new to Fluz and want to join and earn 3 vouchers that each one unlocks an additional 35% cashback welcome offer, here’s how you’d do this:
  • You can get the Fluz App and join for free
    • The link already contains our Fluz app’s referral code POINTSLIFE to give you three (3) welcome vouchers.
  • Each voucher unlocks an additional 35% cashback that’s worth up to $3.50 each.
  • You also earn additional cash back every time you spend on the Fluz app.
  • In addition, you also earn your credit card rewards based on the spending category.

Do Fluz Vouchers Expire?

Yes, each Fluz voucher expires after 60 days from the date the voucher is issued. Therefore, be sure to use them before their expiry date.

How Do Fluz Vouchers Work?

Fluz vouchers can unlock Fluz purchases that allow you to earn up to 35% cashback with select merchants. The maximum you earn from each voucher is $3.50 plus whatever the original cashback rate for that particular merchant.
For example, CVS offers up to 35% back while Uber Eats offers up to 20% back. The percentage back is irrelevant here if you plan to max out the maximum earning of $3.50 per voucher.

So if you purchase the Uber Eats gift card for $20 with a Fluz voucher:
  • 20% back of that $20 is $4, but you will instead earn $3.50 (the maximum earning allowed per voucher).
  • Plus, you will earn the original cashback rate based on the payment method that you use. In this case, Fluz Uber Eats’ original rate is up to 3.5% cashback (depending on the payment method).
  • In addition, you will also earn credit card rewards or statement credits for the dining category depending on the credit card you use as a payment method on the Fluz app because Fluz Uber Eats transaction is coded as FFLLC DINING category.
Don’t worry though, Fluz app will show you the total amount of cashback you will earn before you finalize your purchase. See how to use Fluz vouchers below.

How to Use Fluz Vouchers?

Using Fluz vouchers can be done through the Fluz app:
  • Open the Fluz app on your mobile phone.
  • Under the Voucher stores section, you should see all the merchants that offer up to 35% cashback deals. You can click on the See all link to view all Fluz voucher’s participating merchants.
    • Remember that each voucher is capped at $3.50 max each. You are not going to earn the whole 35% cashback per transaction because that will not make Fluz’s business sustainable.
  • Tap on the merchant that you want to purchase a gift card for.
  • Put in the number of dollars that you wish to purchase, and tap the Continue button.
  • On the final page, you can select a payment method that gives you the additional earnings that you want or a credit card spending category that you want to use for the purchase.
  • On the top of the screen, Fluz shows you the total amount of cashback you’ll earn from that transaction.
  • If you have the Fluz rewards balance, you can use it too if you’d like. Fluz rewards are available only once you achieve $26 in total earnings.
  • Make sure the Apply Voucher is toggled on.
  • If all looks good, you can finalize your purchase. Keep in mind that all Fluz transactions are non-refundable.

Not All Fluz App Transactions Trigger Amex Shop Small Purchases

How to Maximize Fluz App Gift Card Purchases For Credit Card Spending by Category

  • If you are new to Fluz App and want to join for free, you can earn 3 vouchers that each one unlocks an additional up to 35% cashback welcome offer.
  • Figure out which credit card to use to trigger credit card spending bonus or statement credits by category.
    • For example, American Express Hilton Aspire Card offers limited-time $20 dining statement credit through December 31, 2021. You can use that credit card to buy an Uber Eats gift card on Fluz App that will trigger the dining category. After that, you can use that gift card for Uber services such as Uber Eats or Rides.
    • You can also use your Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card to buy an Uber gift card on the Fluz app. The transaction will be coded as travel and earn 2x bonus points per $1 spent on travel.
    • You can also use your Chase Ink Business Cash Credit Card to purchase Staples or Office Depot gift cards on the Fluz app to earn 5x bonus points per $1 spent on the office supplies category, so on and so forth.
  • Maximizing your potential earnings even further by using a cashback portal such as Ebates/Rakuen. Buy products or services from the merchants that are available through Rakuten’s portal site for additional cashback and pay with the gift cards that you purchased through the Fluz App. Here’s how you would do this:
    • Go to Ebates/Rakuten portal site.
    • Sign in with your account. If you do not have an account, you can join for free. Plus after you join and spend $, you will get an additional $ bonus from Rakuten.
    • Search for that specific merchant on Ebates/Rakuten website.
    • Click Shop Now to earn cashback from Rakuten.
    • Start shopping and be sure to use the gift card you bought through the Fluz App to make that purchase.

Bottom Line

Most purchases made through the Fluz App no longer trigger Amex Shop Small. While this door is closed, it opens up another opportunity for credit card spending to earn bonus points or statement credits by category.
Some Fluz purchase transactions are now coded by categories such as FFLLC dining, FFLLC travel, FFLLC grocery, FFLLC office, and more. If you have any questions about Fluz merchant codes for other categories that are not mentioned here, let us know!
Datapoints here are retrieved from the Fluz community. There’s no way to guarantee when these Fluz merchants coding transactions will stay or will go away, and therefore, always test with a small amount to make sure you receive the correct merchant code for a particular Fluz transaction first before you spend too much money and receive no credit card spending bonus category.
