American Express Shop Small promotion is returned through December 31, 2021. In addition, there are also Amex Offers that are targetting cardmembers for some statement credits back when they Shop Small in the U.S. or the U.S. territories.
What’s really worthwhile to pay closer attention to Shop Small promotions is the recent changes in the consumer Platinum Card and with those changes come new amazing card’s welcome bonus that also includes 10x or 15x points per dollar spent, up to $25,000 in combined purchases at a Shop Small.

Shop Small is created by American Express to help U.S. small business owners thrive by encouraging consumers to support local small businesses. Consumers simply use an American Express credit card to shop or dine at a participating Shop Small establishment nationwide, in the neighborhood or local community.
How to Find Shop Small Participating Merchants?
To locate an Amex Shop Small merchant:
- Go to the official American Express Shop Small Map
- Put in your zip code or a specific merchant name
- Amex will show you the list of participating Shop Small merchants
Generally speaking, any local small business locations that accept American Express Cards as a means of payment are most likely participating in Shop Small. You can find several of those merchants in your area from restaurants, grocery stores to your pet’s groomers! American Express now is heavily accepted by U.S. business owners more than it used to be.
Maximzing Amex Shop Small Promotions

Amex Shop Small Promotions
The best thing to motivate consumers to go out and support small business owners is through promotional offers. That’s why American Express offers Shop Small promotions to encourage Amex cardholders to shop and dine at U.S. small businesses to earn statement credits or bonus points back.
Currently, here are the Shop Small promotions:
- Through December 31, 2021, you can enroll your Amex card to receive a $5 statement credit of up to $10 on each eligible $10+ purchase made at a Shop Small business location. See the offer link below.
- You can earn statement credits back on eligible purchases made at a business that participating in Shop Small through Amex Offers.
- American Express Platinum Card is currently offering high welcome bonus Membership Rewards points along with an opportunity to earn 10x or 15x points per dollar spent (up to $25,000) at a participating Shop Small business location.
Spend $10 & Receive $5 Statement Credit Up to 2X
- Get a $5 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to make a single purchase of $10+ directly at any Shop Small business in the US or US territories.

Buy Gift Cards on Fluz App to Receive Shop Small Statement Credits
UPDATE August 2021: It appears that not all Fluz App transactions trigger Amex Shop Small purchases anymore. There are still some merchants that still trigger shop small, but for the most part, some of the Fluz merchants are now coded as dining, grocery, travel, etc. Because of this, always test with a small amount to make sure first. Read the following post to see the list of Fluz merchants coding by category.
The miles and points community provided data points that purchasing gift cards through Fluz App does trigger the Amex Shop Small’s statement credit.
Fluz App is operated under the Fluz Pay business entity that can be found on American Express Shop Small Map. This is why any gift card purchases transactions made on Fluz App are processed and counted as participating U.S. small business merchants under Amex Shop Small promotion.
Here’s how you would do this:
Warning: Please see the UPDATE that is mentioned above because not all Fluz App transactions trigger Amex Shop Small purchases anymore as of August 2021. Because of this, always test with a small amount to make sure first.
- Be sure to enroll and add your Amex card to the current Shop Small offer first.
- If you do not have a Fluz account before, you can get the Fluz App and join for free. You’ll earn up to 35% cashback as a welcome offer and additional cashback every time you spend on Fluz App.
- Sign into Fluz App and buy a gift card for at least $10 with an Amex card that you added the offer to in step 1 above.
- This will trigger the $5 Shop Small statement credit back.
- Keep in mind, the limit of 2 statement credits (total of $10 back) and the offer expires on August 22, 2021.
Use Amex Offers to Receive Shop Small Statement Credits

- Go to American Express’s official Shop Small website.
- Scroll down a little until you see a button that says EXPLORE OFFERS.
- Click on it.
- It launches a new page where you are required to log in with your Amex credentials.
- Once you are successfully logged in, you should be presented with a list of Amex Offers under the Shop Small category (see the screenshot below).
- Each Amex Offer for the Shop Small varies by the business. Once you see the business that you are interested in, simply click on the button Add to Card. You can add the offer as many as you’d like.
Earn Bonus Membership Rewards Points On Shop Small With American Express Platinum Card
The American Express Platinum Card now has a new annual fee of $695 and comes with more annual credit benefits. In the meantime, there are quite a few welcome offers on the card from a referral offer to a Resy’s offer that includes additional bonus American Express Membership Rewards (MR) points when you spend on eligible purchases at restaurants worldwide or a Shop Small business in the U.S.
- Referral Offer:
- Earn 100,000 – 125,000 Membership Rewards Points + 10x Points at restaurants worldwide and when you Shop Small in the U.S., on up to $25,000 in combined purchases, during your first 6 months of Card Membership.
