Chase and American Express are the issuers of Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards

While both issuers typically give you plenty of time to meet the spending requirements in order to obtain the card’s welcome offer, sometimes you may be eager to put spends on your new approved Marriott credit card in order to earn the welcome offer as fast as possible, so that you can use those points to redeem for an award stay right away due to the availability.

Amex Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card’s Official Welcome Bonus Offer Term

To be eligible to earn x bonus Marriott Bonvoy points, you must make eligible purchases with your Marriott Bonvoy Card that total x amount or more (the “Threshold Amount”) within your first 3 months of Card Membership, based on the date of your Card approval. Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of other cash equivalents. Additional Card Members on your account are not eligible for this offer.
To earn the bonus points, your Card account must not be canceled or past due at the time of fulfillment.

How Fast Does Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card’s Sign-Up Bonus Points Post?

First and foremost, as long as your purchases on your new approved Marriott Bonvoy credit card are eligible purchases based on the terms and conditions mentioned above, you will receive the bonus Marriott points or whatever your welcome offer is such as free night offers.
According to the official term, Chase states that it can take up to 8 weeks and Amex can take up to 12 weeks to issue the sign-up offer into your Marriott Bonvoy’s account, but in reality the time it takes both card issuers to have the bonus points posted to your Marriott Bonvoy account is much faster than that 8-12 weeks time. In fact, it can occur immediately or just a few days after your credit card’s statement closing date.
While I can not tell for sure whether it is necessary or not to pay off the balance before Chase or Amex issues the welcome bonus Marriott points, but based on what I have gathered, once your credit card’s statement is closed, your Marriott Bonvoy account should be updated immediately with the welcome offer that you signed up for.

How to determine your Marriott Bonvoy credit card’s statement closing date?

For Chase, if you have Chase account’s profile set up online already, you should be able to sign into your Chase account. I was able to do this easier through the Chase mobile app.
  • Open Chase mobile app.
  • Click on that particular Marriott credit card.
  • Your payment due date should appear. Don’t worry about the amount whether it’s zero or not.
  • Your statement closing date will be a few days after that date.
So as long as you make eligible purchases to meet the minimum spending requirement before that estimated statement closing date, you should be good to go. If you want to be sure, you can always call Chase customer service up and ask about your account’s statement closing date.
For American Express, your card’s statement closing date is typically anywhere from 15-30 days after your card is open. It’s harder to determine Amex card’s statement closing date because of how their system is coded. The best way to find that out for sure is to call American Express or use American Express chat feature online to inquire about your Marriott card’s statement closing date. They should be able to tell you right away. Once you have the statement closing date information, you can then aim for meeting the minimum spending requirement before that date to earn your welcome offer.

How Soon Does Amex Marriott Credit Card’s Upgrade Bonus Points Post?

American Express allows credit card’s upgrade and they even send targeted upgrade offer from time to time to select card members that the upgrade offer is as good as the sign-up bonus.
