How To Book World of Hyatt Guest of Honor And How Does It Work?

One of the top tier elite benefits that make World of Hyatt program different from other hotel's reward programs is the Hyatt Guest of Honor benefit that allows Globalist members to book a room for someone else using points or Hyatt Free Night Award at an applicable Hyatt brand hotel or resort, and have that "Guest of Honor" receive all elite benefits that would have been provided to the Globalist.

In this post, I want to go through some basics about Hyatt's Guest of Honor benefit and answer some frequently asked questions about how does this benefit actually work.

What is Hyatt Guest of Honor?

Guest of Honor is is an exclusive benefit that is available to World of Hyatt's top tier Globalist elite members. Once you earn the Globalist elite status in the World of Hyatt program, you can gift free night award stay(s) to someone else. The recipient will be treated as your "Guest of Honor" and will receive the same Globalist's elite perks at the applicable Hyatt hotel or resort.

The most important thing about this Hyatt's Guest of Honor benefit is that, the points or Hyatt Free Night Award has to come out of your (Globalist) account, not your guest of honor's account.

How Does Hyatt Guest of Honor Benefit Work?

There are terms that are associated with the Hyatt's Guest of Honor benefits, but in summary:
    • Hyatt's Guest of Honor benefit is only available on points or Hyatt Free Night Award that is earn either through Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card every year or other ways to earn Hyatt Free Night Award
    • Points or Hyatt Free Night Award has to come out of Globalist's account, not the guest of honor's account.
    • Points + Cash or cash bookings are not eligible.
    • There's no limit to how many rooms a Globalist member can book and gift Guest of Honor.
    • The Guest of Honor does not have to be friends or family, it can be virtually anyone.
    • Globalist member can stay in conjunction with the guest by booking a second room for the guest at the same Hyatt property, or the guest can simply stay without the presence of the Globalist member.
    • All Globalist benefits are extended to the Gest of Honor such as complimentary room upgrade including standard suite upgrade subject to availability at check-in, complimentary club access or free breakfast, early check-in, 4:00 PM late checkout, waived resort fees, free parking and more.
    • Award stays do count toward Hyatt's elite night credits. Globalist member will not receive elite night credits, but the Guest of Honor will receive elite night credits into their own account if they are also a World of Hyatt member which they should be.
    • Guest of Honor benefits are available only for gifted awards that are redeemed at a participating Park Hyatt, Miraval, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt, Andaz, Hyatt Centric, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Thompson Hotels, Alila (some locations only), Joie de Vivre (some locations only), Destination (both participating Destination Hotels and participating Destination Residences locations), Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara hotel or resort. Not valid at M Life or Hyatt Residence Club resorts.
    • Currently, it is not possible to book and gift Guest of Honor online. You must call World of Hyatt reservation line at 1-800-323-7249 or direct message Hyatt Concierge via Twitter to do so.

Can I Use Hyatt Guest of Honor Booking On A Paid Stay?

No, cash bookings are not eligible. Points + cash bookings are also not eligible. Hyatt's Guest of Honor benefit is only available on 100% World of Hyatt points or Hyatt Free Night Award that is earn either through Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card every year or other ways to earn Hyatt Free Night Award

Can I Book Hyatt Guest of Honor Using Hyatt Points From The Guest's Account?

No, World of Hyatt points or Hyatt Free Night Award has to come out of the Globalist member's account, not the guest of honor's account.

But here's a workaround - Hyatt lets you combine points between accounts for free. So if you do not want to use your World of Hyatt points and your friend does not have Globalist elite status, s/he can transfer points to you and then you can use those points to book. Keep in mind, both Hyatt accounts must be active and each of you can send or receive points only once every 30 days. For more information on Hyatt points pooling, check out How To Pool World of Hyatt Points.

How To Earn Free Nights At Hyatt?

Can I Book Hyatt Guest of Honor Room For Anyone?

Yes, the Guest of Honor recipient does not have to be friends or family, it can be virtually anyone. Globalist member does not even have to stay in conjunction with that guest at the same Hyatt hotel or resort. In other words, the guest of honor can stay independently without the Globalist member.

It's worth mentioning also that Globalist member will not receive elite night credits from this type of booking, elite night credits from this type of award stay will be credited into the Guest of Honor's account instead.

Is Hyatt Guest of Honor Benefit Available At M Life Or Hyatt Residence Club Resorts?

Unfortunately no. Per Hyatt's program terms, the Guest of Honor benefit is NOT available at Hyatt's partner M Life or Hyatt Residence Club resorts. The Guest of Honor benefits are only for gifted awards that are redeemed at the following participating Hyatt brands:

    • Miraval

Hyatt Guest of Honor Suite Upgrade

While the Guest of Honor can receive complimentary standard suite upgrade that's subject to availability at check-in as part of the Globalist benefits, Globalist member cannot gift the Suite Upgrade Awards that are earned through Hyatt Milestone Reward to the guest of honor.
