Budapest Airport (BUD) Lounge Review: Menzies Aviation Lounge and SkyCourt Lounge For LOT Polish Airlines Business Class Passengers

LOT Polish Airlines decided to fly their Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner planes from Budapest (BUD) to Chicago (ORD) and New York (JFK). At Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), you only have a couple lounge options and they are all located in Terminal 2A where both LOT’s check-in counter and departure gates are at.

After getting your boarding pass, you can proceed to security A check point, then you arrive at A gates. You can take the escalator to the upper level where both Menzies Aviation and SkyCourt lounges are at. These lounges are contracted lounges for Star Alliance airlines. LOT Polish Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, so any Star Alliance elite members and passengers that hold a LOT Business Class's boarding pass can enter these lounges.

Attention

Please note that, LOT flights from Budapest to Chicago can be leaving from C gates and therefore you should keep track of your time as to get to C gates you will need to go through passport control to exit Europe. Unless you have a Priority Pass card, there’s no other lounge in the B & C gates that allows LOT Business Class passengers to enter.

Tip: Carry Priority Pass card with you, there's a lounge in the B & C gates area after passport conrol called the Platinum Lounge that you can access with your Priority Pass card.

Menzies Aviation Lounge Review

LOT agent will recommend this lounge to you at the check-in counter if you ask. To get in, you simply give the agent your Business Class's boarding pass. It’s worth noting that this lounge also accepts Priority Pass card. This lounge is very small. When I was there, the lounge did not have anything other than drinks, one pastry item, apples and a few bags of chips. The lounge is really very basic and they don’t even have a toilet inside the lounge. You have to go out to use the toilet. Unless you just want a few drinks and a quiet relaxation, then this lounge can work. Otherwise, skip this one and go to the next door SkyCourt lounge instead that also allows LOT Business Class passengers to enter.

SkyCourt Lounge Review

The SkyCourt agent will scan your LOT Business Class's boarding pass to allow you access to the lounge. This lounge is much bigger and more spacious than the Menzies Aviation Lounge. The seats at the SkyCourt lounge are comfortable and there are a variety of cold food and pastry items. We were there in the morning, so they were serving the European style breakfast such as ham, cheese, etc. At the food section, you can also find many selections of alcohol and soft drinks. The toilet is also available inside the lounge. Unlike Menzies Aviation lounge, you have to go out to use the toilet.

Conclusion

There are only two lounges that LOT Business Class passengers can access at the Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD): Menzies Aviation Lounge and SkyCourt Lounge. The SkyCourt lounge appears to be much better option than the Menzies Aviation lounge. Although SkyCourt is not the best Business Class lounge out there, it has a good selections of food and drinks. The seats are also more comfortable and the lounge itself is also more spacious than the Menzies Aviation Lounge. Keep in mind that if you want to stay in one of these lounges prior to your flight's departure, they are located after security in A gates area but NOT after the passport control. So if you are exiting Europe, allow yourself plenty of time to get to your gate other than A gate in case the line at the passport control is busy.
